German man saves Chinese woman from heart attack with TCM

In Dengfeng, Henan Province, a German student who specializes in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) garnered widespread attention on Chinese social media for rescuing a woman who was experiencing a heart attack during a mountain ascent.

While filming a program in the area, Joel Mikael Walker, 29, known by his Chinese name Wuming, received news of a woman who had collapsed. With a following of more than 1.45 million on Douyin, Wuming is renowned for his proficiency in the Henan dialect and his commitment to traditional Chinese medicine.

Wuming discovered the woman unconscious, pallid, and devoid of a discernible pulse upon her arrival at the location. He promptly reached out to his preceptor, Song Zhaopu, a renowned TCM practitioner, for assistance, as he suspected a sudden cardiac arrest. Wuming implemented traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) methods in lieu of conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) under Song's supervision, as she was concerned about the woman's fragile health.

"The woman was extremely thin and was lying on rocky terrain." "I was concerned that administering CPR could cause her ribs to fracture," Wuming disclosed to Elephant News. Instead, he repeatedly tapped her elbow pits until red marks, or sha, appeared, and splashed cold water on her face to stimulate her epidermis. Her pulse returned after more than 20 strikes, and she was able to regain consciousness and speak.

Song explained that tapping the elbow pit can unblock meridians, enhance qi flow, and promote blood circulation. He also mentioned that the utilisation of lukewarm water is a conventional approach to assist in the resuscitation of an individual by increasing alertness.

At the age of 11, Wuming embarked on her TCM voyage while participating in martial arts training at a Shaolin Temple in Germany. He relocated to China in 2015 to pursue a master's degree in acupuncture at Henan University of Chinese Medicine. He is currently balancing his role as a social media influencer with his mission to promote Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) on a global scale.

Although numerous individuals praised Wu's actions as a demonstration of the effectiveness of TCM, others expressed skepticism regarding the credibility of the narrative.  Some netizens hypothesised that Wuming may have orchestrated the incident to enhance her recognition as a TCM ambassador.

"Is a foreign influencer using TCM to save someone?" questioned a skeptical user. This seems too perfect to be true. Another individual expressed, "It is convenient that the entire incident was captured on camera and is in perfect harmony with his influencer brand."

Numerous individuals defended Wuming's actions, despite the criticism. One supporter observed, "The method was effective, and someone's life was saved, regardless of whether it was staged."

Wuming responded to the skepticism by stating, "This is not about me."  The subject is the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine and its potential to save lives when used appropriately
