On October 24, the Girl's Volleyball team played against GHCIS and won three sets straight in a three-out-of-five sets game (3:0). During the game, coach Junard tries different formations and combinations of players to ensure everyone gets a chance to play. With such, some problems are identified, and the friendly game benefits the girls’ volleyball varsity team. All the players did a phenomenal job in arrays of techniques while the captain actively led and united the group. In the end, all the members contributed to this win.

Noticeably, the GHCIS players also did a good job, as we can see significant improvements compared to the past few years. This signals that other teams are training to become more competitive amongst the international schools. Now, GHCIS is a team to watch.
On to the game with SUIS WY on November 2, though it was easier than the previous, all the girls still performed an outstanding job on serving, winning again 2:0 straight. Noticeably, though the coach was missing, the captain and team members coordinated well with constant communication and encouragement.
As always, the girls showcased excellent teamwork and spirit on the court. There are scenes where players encourage each other, and the member on the bench is engaged in calling for the team. Ace it! Ace it!
After two weeks of break arming up for the formal SSSA league match, the volleyball girls attended their first away match on Saturday, November 18th, at NACIS, along with nine other teams, including YKPS Hongqiao. The tournament was clearly separated into different levels, with YKPS teams being the top with our “archenemy” SHSID.
Unsurprisingly, the girls beat their first two opponents, GCIS and SUIS GB, with a large lap, almost scoring all the points by merely serving. However, the play could have been smoother against SHSID. At first, the girls maintained the points lead with SHSID. Unfortunately, the girls didn’t get adapted to a new formation instructed by Coach Junard as smoothly which gave SHSID the chance to overcome our lead and gain six points in a row. Despite the team’s hard work and astonishing teamwork later in the set, the girls lost after the tense deuce. It was genuinely vexing for all the members.
The team managed to turn such guilt and anger into motivation. All girls dedicated to the game with extra full effort, which ends up beating SHSID two sets straight in the followed fight for third place. This showcased the team’s spirit of unity and persistence, and also their good ability of self-reflecting.
Finally, the “unbeatable” YKPS Hongqiao came first, and the lucky GHCIS won the second. Though having third place is still an honor, the team has realized the coordination and collaboration issues between the players.
The issues remained and was reflected through the intercampus match with the YKPS Hongqiao volleyball team on December 7. It was fun to play a friendly match with Hongqiao, but the performance of us as high schoolers was not satisfactory.
Despite the loss for the first set, it was still great to see the younger ones having such enthusiasm for volleyball and strong serves, giving them an enormous advantage in the game.
Gratitudes:
All varsity girls are undoubtedly very grateful to all tactics offered by the coach during the games, which helped and encouraged the players significantly to overcome the passive situations. Also, the team believe that their ability will be improved to the start of the season next semester with the strategic training routines offered thanks to the coach.
Certainly, the volleyball team’s victories have brought pride to the school. But overall, the girls’ volleyball did not perform to the best of their ability, they will learn from the drop and work extra hard for redemption.
