Boys' Football Seasonal Review

男足赛季回顾

1

Brief Intro

The SSSA 23-24 season finally ended after the intense trainings and competition over the past four months. The Boys' Football Team finished the season with only 1 loss. This year was particular challenging for the team, as most members were new to the varsity team.

Throughout the entire year of practice, the team worked hard as a whole and improved in various football skills. Players tried their best to practice and play; the transformation of the team was tremendous. Although there may be disappointments with the results, the progress made in the process is an important legacy that will be passed on to future years of the football team.

Words from Captain:

This season has been unforgettable for our boys' football team. Our players showed dedication, teamwork, and passion, leading to an undefeated record up to the final. Our journey this season was marked by victories and hard-fought battles. Each match was a testament to our unity and skill.

Although the final didn't go as hoped, the team gave their all on the pitch. All the players fought till the final whistle and they displayed courage, determination, and sportsmanship. Despite the results, what matters most is that the players have already become families and the memories that will forever unite the team.

Looking ahead, we'll use the lessons learned and experiences gained to prepare for next season. With resilience and determination, we're confident that greater success awaits us.

The last season playing in this jersey has certainly been a special one for me. I gave my best in every match I played and I enjoyed every minute playing on this pitch. I will definitely miss this family and the cheers.

Noah Cai #17, Y12

Position: Center Back

Season Stats: Assist

This season was of happiness, joy, passion, and love within the team. It was an honor and a pleasure for me to be in such a wonderful team. I appreciate all effort and work by our teammates, and my jersey remains a treasure in my rough 19 years of life.

Minjun Kim #5, Y12

PositionCenter Back

Season Stats: Assist

The past season, we had a greater portion of younger players compared to the past few years, but I’m happy to say that the chemistry and experience remained outstanding. The past years in the school team were surely the best part of my YK Pao experience.

Tiger Hua #13, Y11

Position: Wing

Season Stats: 3 Goals, 2 Assists

I’m so happy to be a part of this team. Everyone in this team is great.

Forest Wu #55, Y11

Season Stats: 1 Goal

Despite losing the most important match of the season, I’m still proud of what we’ve accomplished as a team.

Barry Shen #10, Y11

Position: Wing

Season Stats:  2 Assists

The season was undoubtedly tough for our team as new players come into the squad, despite that, dedication and hard work led us to success for the majority of the season. Personally I think I wasn't as my best; I promise to reflect and keep contributing everything I've got to the team.

Joshua Greenaway #14, Y10

Position:

Center Midfield/Center Back

Season Stats: 9 Goals, 6 Assists

It was a season with some amazing moments. I'm super excited to play again this year.

Kiran Chong #8, Y10

Position: Wing/Center Midfield

Season Stats: 4 Goals, 2 Assists

Despite our loss in the final, this season was very successful. We overcame many challenges including injuries, changing coaches, but in the end we were able to play a style of football we enjoyed and we also improved immensely as a team.

Todor Qin #19, Y10

Position: Striker/Wing

Season Stats: 3 Goals, 3 Assists

Our team's overall performance this season was acceptable, but I still feel a little bit sad about finishing in second place for two consecutive years; so for next season, I am going to continue working hard and giving full play to my true strength.

Lance Ding #1, Y10

Position: Goalkeeper

This season has been a great improvement for me. I am very happy for my performance, but I hope to make better choices in games when under high pressure.

Derek Zhang #28, Y9

Position: Center Back/Wing

Season Stats: 1 Assist

This season was a challenge for me in many ways, and I’m thankful for my teammates who supported me the whole. I’m so grateful to have been a part of this awesome team.

Jason Chen #9, Y9

Position: Center Back/Wing

Season Stats: 1 Goal, 1 Assist

It’s my first year in the team and I feel honored. I really enjoy the team spirit and energy.

Evan Xia #57, Y9

Position: Wing

Season Stats: 1 Goal, 2 Assists

Last season to me was a resurrection—a resurrection of my skills in football, and more importantly, my love of football. I felt blessed having the opportunity of devoting myself to the court again.

Simon Jiang #99, Y9

Positi

on: Goalkeeper

Season Stats: 1 Assist

This season was a novel experience for me. It is my first year at YK Pao, and I have met so many friends through the football varsity team. Though we only finished in second place in the league, the cohesion of our team really astonished me. I hope I can stay with this team as long as I could.

Words From Coach Milan

In the first semester and after already one week of training sessions, I realized that every student/player has the potential to build together one strong team that will later be the best team in the league.

I tried to constantly repeating every training some football philosophy words to the boys about discipline and focus when you coming to the training session and during the training session, as well when training is finished, by some short resume of training, where I wanted to instill in their minds and head that if you apply what we do on training to the match games, then will not be a problem what will be final score or how our style of playing will look.

From very beginning of the next semester we will try to improve our agility and stamina, as we missed that obviously in the last match of the season, and surely to bring our passing and shooting level on a higher scale which is have no doubt only if they respect essential part of sport - coming on time and be concentrated and fully active at training.

Hope that you had some football and running during the summer break and that fitness level is not low, we will start from the very first week with high intensity trainings, hope to see you all from the first training.

Words From Seniors:

#11 Eric Wu

As the oldest player and captain this year, it has been a pleasure to work with and get to know all of my teammates and coaches. I still remember my first time stepping onto this pitch as a Year 9 student, learning from the older players. Now, as the roles have changed, I can see the potential in this team and am confident that they will achieve great things in the future.

A message to the boys: I truly appreciate all of your efforts this year. As the final whistle echoed around the pitch at the end of the season, what struck me most wasn’t the result of the match but the memories we created together. What makes football so special to me is the relationships and friendships built while playing. Although this season’s result wasn’t ideal, I believe that you all have the potential to succeed in the future. You’ve become like family to me, and I will certainly miss the bonds we’ve formed. I’ll always be here to support you, and YK Pao will always be my home.

#5 Minjun Kim

I wish the team an amazing season and a sweet victory over SHSID. But regardless, I hope the players can cherish the best part, arguably, of YK Pao.

#17 Noah Cai

To Josh, Kiran, Todor, Lance and the other Year 10s: I sincerely wish that you guys will not be tortured by IB and can still play football like you used too. You guys created such a lovely culture for the school, and I hope school will not let it down.

To the Y11’s who are going into their seniors: Good luck with your applications, and stay tuned for your last year! This will be the final days and time really does fly.

To the year 9s: Notably Jason and Simon, keep up the good work, enjoy your IG years as they soon end, but I bet it will be a lot of fun.

To everyone: Love y’all and a member of the YKPS football team will always be my proudest identity!

Special Thanks To...

Coach Milan:

We are truly grateful for all the trainings and matches you prepared for us. The advice you gave us about football has been invaluable, but we will also keep in mind the “life lessons” you taught us. Once again, thank you for your support and I will definitely miss you a lot, wherever you are headed in the future.

Coach Yingkai:

You are not only the coach to all of us, but also our best friend, our best math teacher, and our best cheerleader. We all see the passion you have for this sport and the love you have for this team. You are an indispensable part of this family and your cheer always gave us energy and passion. I will surely miss you a lot (but I still can’t agree that Man United is the greatest football club in history).

——Eric Wu (on behalf of the whole team)

—— Boys' Football Varsity Team

Conclusion

Although the final game was not as satisfactory as expected, the improvements the team made will last as a legacy for future years, as the team will only get better and grow stronger. We will continue to put more effort into this sport we all love and persevere through the years. Hope to see more students try out for varsity football team in the new semester and join us!
