As 2025 draws near, Fudan University Council Chairman QIU Xin and President JIN Li extended a New Year’s message to usher in 2025, marking a new chapter in our shared journey.
They highlighted that the university has made remarkable strides in its quest to become a world-class university over the past year. Fudan University delineated a comprehensive strategy to expedite its ascent to the vanguard of globally renowned universities at its 16th University Congress of the Communist Party of China.
Embarking on the third educational and teaching reform since the start of the new century, Fudan University has been making steady progress in reforms of student recruitment and admission and adjustments to its disciplinary structure. The “Xianghui Academy” and other talent cultivation pilot programs have seen robust development. Additionally, the clinical medical colleges of Fudan’s affiliated hospitals ZhongShan and HuaShan have been established, marking a significant expansion in the university’s medical education and training capabilities. These initiatives reflect Fudan’s commitment to innovating in higher education and meeting the evolving needs of society and industry.
Over the past year, more than 120 distinguished professors, researchers and other professionals drawn from both at home and abroad have joined Fudan. Five university-level research and development centers and a batch of research institutions were established. A series of AI4S (AI for Science) and AI4SS (AI for Social Science) achievements, such as AI models assisting the visually impaired to “see” the world, technological advancements in archaeology helping to identify the unknown soldiers, and brain-spinal cord interface technology offering hope for paralyzed individuals to walk again, have transformed the impossible into the possible, pioneering new frontiers with innovative paradigms.
Fudan has actively engaged in global cooperation through hosting events like the Annual International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians and Sino-U.S. youth exchange activities. The university joined the International Telecommunication Union and signed a cooperation agreement with the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, becoming a preferred destination for foreign dignitaries and scholars visiting China.
In 2024, Fudan No.1 Lancang-Mekong Future Satellite was launched, and in the fall semester, the Event Calendar 3.0 version rolled out. The university has organized a vibrant array of campus events, featuring original historical dramas, Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, and campus marathons. More than 20,000 students engaged in social work at primary-level governments or communities. The university also held its first collective wedding for 120 alumni couples, marking the beginning of the 120th anniversary celebrations.
Looking forward to 2025, Fudan University is set to commemorate its 120th anniversary with a spectrum of celebratory events scheduled for May, extending a “120th Anniversary Invitation” to alumni and friends worldwide to join in the festivities and collaborate in shaping the future of Fudan.
