On December 12,2014, the first phase of the middle route of the South-North Water Transfer Project was officially opened to traffic with water. A pool of water flowing through canals to the north has greatly alleviated the problem of water resources shortage in the middle and north area greatly.
2014年12月12日，南水北调中线一期工程正式通水。一泓清水，沿渠北上，极大缓解了中部和北方地区的水资源短缺问题。
“How could it be so clear and cool? For fresh water comes from the source.” For a long time, General Secretary Xi Jinping has concerned the core water source of the middle route of the South-North Water Transfer Project——the ecological protection work of the Danjiangkou Reservoir, giving clear instructions in diverse ways to make sure “a pool of clear water flows to north forever”
问渠那得清如许，为有源头活水来。长期以来，习近平总书记十分关心南水北调中线工程核心水源地——丹江口水库的生态保护工作，多次以不同方式提出明确指示，要求确保“一泓清水永续北上”。
The Danjiangkou Reservoir with a capacity of 33.9 billion cubic meters, called north water-consuming areas’ “Big well”. In the past ten years, in order to protect the water resources, Danjiangkou City, Shiyan city, Hubei Province and Xichuan County, Nanyang City, Henan Province founded the water conservation volunteer service organization “Small Drip” and established “Water ranger” public welfare posts.
库容339亿立方米的丹江口水库，堪称北方用水地区的“大水井”。十年来，为保护好水源，湖北省十堰市丹江口市和河南省南阳市淅川县分别成立“小水滴”守水护水志愿服务组织和设立“护水员”公益岗位。
Meanwhile, to achieve the goal of “never let a drop of dirty water enter the reservoir”, “space, sky, land, ocean” protective defence was used firmly in the Danjiangkou Reservoir area.
同时，为了“不让一滴污水进入河库”，“空、天、地、水”守水防线全方位在丹江口库区筑牢。
“The South-North Water Transfer Project concerns the overall strategic interests, further development, and well-being of the people”, under the guidance of General Secretary Xi Jinping, the idea that "everyone is a guardian of the well" has become a common belief among people living in the reservoir area. The theory of innovation and the power of technology makes the ecological and environmental protection in the reservoir area enter a high-level track.
“南水北调工程事关战略全局、长远发展和人民福祉”，在习近平总书记的指引下，人人都是“守井人”已成为库区百姓共识，理念革新、科技赋能，也让库区生态环境保护进入了高水平轨道。
