猫狗双全，人生赢家，相信这是不少铲屎官的梦想，在日常的救助领养中我们也会经常遇到铲屎官吐露心声：想领养，但是又怕他们合不来......

Having both cats and dogs is often considered a sign of a "life winner" among pet owners. Many who come to us for pet rescue and adoption express a similar wish: they want to adopt both a cat and a dog but are worried they might not get along...

其实要让猫狗和平相处，并没有大家想象中那么难，今天我们特地请出毛茸茸的猫狗家庭来现身说法。

Getting cats and dogs to coexist peacefully isn't as difficult as people imagine. Today, we've invited some furry families to share their experiences.

一号家庭 Family No.1

Toria & Kahula

Kahula是2021年被我们救助的汪，从她已经脱落的几颗牙齿可以想见在常年流浪的日子里吃了不少苦。但是她性格温顺，也很幸运，半年的时间就找到了家，在Luke和Samantha的细心呵护下，她被宠成了一个小公主。

Kahula was a dog we rescued in 2021. Judging from the few missing teeth, it's clear she endured a lot of hardship during her time as a stray. However, she has a gentle temperament and was fortunate to find a home within six months. With Luke and Samantha's meticulous care, Kahula has been pampered like a little princess

今年春天，他们又领养了Toria，一个在高架上被压断腿的小女孩，小小年纪不得不接受手术治疗才恢复了健康。

Toria被领养的时候大概五个月大，正是活泼的年龄，Kahula像个大姐姐一样让Toria尽情玩闹，现在家里日常的画风是这样的。

This spring, they adopted Toria, a young kitten who had a broken leg after an accident on a highway and needed surgery to heal. Toria was about five months old when she was adopted—an age full of energy. Kahula, like a big sister, lets Toria play around as she pleases. Now, this is their daily life.

Wow, what a big family! Apart from the household members, there are also friends visiting from time to time. Look how harmonious they all are!

For Cats and Dogs to Coexist, Patience and Understanding from Pet Owners Are Crucial.

陌生的气味会让动物紧张，一开始可以把猫狗用不同房间隔离，先让他们熟悉彼此的声音、气味。过几天再尝试进一步接触，最好在铲屎官的陪同下进行多次短暂接触，猫狗会通过嗅闻、扑打来彼此试探、确立相处模式，只有在确定打斗激烈可能出现受伤情况的时候才需要制止（这种情况概率极低）。

The unfamiliar scent can make animals anxious, so initially, it's best to keep cats and dogs in separate rooms. Let them get accustomed to each other's sounds and smells first. After a few days, try to have them interact more directly, preferably with the owner's supervision, in several short sessions. Cats and dogs will sniff and paw at each other to test and establish how they will interact. Only intervene if you think the play is becoming too aggressive and could lead to injuries (which is rare).

特别要提醒的是，在这过程中最容易焦虑的往往是铲屎官，人们经常用人的感受来理解动物之间的行为，要知道铲屎官激烈的紧张情绪容易感染猫狗，让他们变得更敏感更没有安全感。所以铲屎官才是宝贝们的坚强后盾，一定要很坚定地给予猫狗接受对方的时间，切勿轻易放弃哦。

It's also important to note that during this process, the ones who are most likely to be anxious are often the pet owners. People tend to interpret animal behavior based on their feelings. Remember, if the owners are tense, it could make the cats and dogs more sensitive and insecure. So, pet owners are the strong support system for their furry friends. Be patient and give your cats and dogs time to accept each other—don't give up too easily!
