Taking you back to 2006, the Naughty Noughties!   An era of music and fashion where punk rock met electronic dance music, when sounds and styles were mashed-up in a glorious and reckless neon explosion. Those heady days and nights just before hipsters ruined everything, before Steve Aoki started throwing cakes, and before Electro-House and Dubstep had an evil bastard child named EDM.

We're bringing back the best (and a few of the worst) songs of the time -- Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem, The Strokes, Cut Copy, Justice, Simian Mobile Disco, MGMT, Sulumi, 2manyDJs, Miss Kitten, Fischerspooner, Chromeo, Crystal Castles, and so many more.

The early 2000s were soundtracked by Electro-Clash sounds -- a mix of New York post-punk, electro, and performance art (The Strokes, Fischerspooner, LCD Soundsystem, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, DFA Records), and the European pre/post-techno sounds of Miss Kitten, DJ Hell, Ladytron, and Daft Punk.

“Indie Dance Rock”则是从纽约起飞的摇滚舞曲风潮，Cut Copy, Bloc Party, The Hives这类乐队完美证明了摇滚也能在舞池中掀起狂潮。

As the decade progressed, several genres grew parallel to, or inspired by, electro-clash -- there's no real name for it all together, but the scene, the zeitgeist was inclusive and open-minded -- guitars and laptop DJs? All good.  

The "Indie Dance Rock" sounds from New York and bands like Cut Copy, Bloc Party, The Hives -- rock music that works on a club dance floor.

The "Nu Disco" sound made edits of old disco records -- punching up the sound quality and dance-floor friendly timing using new technology and ideas from House Music.

New software like Ableton made "Mash-Ups" easy -- anyone could mix different styles of music, tempos, pitches.

“8-Bit”风格则是对新技术的反讽，利用老旧设备如80年代的任天堂Gameboy或改装的70年代Speak & Spell制作出简约而明亮的复古音效。

The "8-Bit" sound was an ironic reaction to all the new technology -- using cheap, old hardware like 80s Nintendo Gameboys and circuit-bended 70s Speak & Spells to make very basic but bold, bright sounds.

那时最大的明星无疑是“French Touch”风格的制作人，比如Daft Punk, Justice, Etienne de Crecy, Air，以及一些我们懒得提的人——他们让“侧链压缩”的嗡嗡嗡音效风靡全球，你绝对知道那种感觉！

Perhaps the biggest names to rise from this era were the "French Touch" bands/producers like Daft Punk, Justice, Etienne de Crecy, Air, and others we don't want to mention -- who popularized the "side-chain" compression sound, you know that whomp whomp sound?

最后，什么是“Blog House”？2000年代正值博客的全盛时期，DJ、唱片公司、记者和潮人们都在博客上找新音乐。那时候没有流媒体，一切都得下载。这为卧室里的音乐制作人、混音和翻唱DJ提供了一个大展身手的机会。没有唱片公司？没电台支持？不怕，博客让你一夜成名！从Pitchfork到Hype-Machine，再到Diplo的Hollerboard，博客不仅是分享新音乐的圣地，甚至成了一种音乐风格！

Finally, what's "Blog House"?  In the 2000s, blogs were popular, and that's how DJs, labels, journalists, and the cool kids found new music.  This was before streaming -- you had to download the music.  This created new opportunities for bedroom music producers, and mash-up/remix DJs to experiment and share their songs without label distribution or radio approval.  From Pitchfork to Hype-Machine to Diplo's Hollerboard, the blogs were so important to sharing new music --  the platform became the genre.
