Post-Doctoral Researcher (Salary Level TV-L 13/75%) for Transnational dimensions of peace, conflict and fragility- Focus preferably on the MENA region.
The successful candidate is expected to start by the 1st April 2025 and will be initially appointed for a period of two years. The workplace is Freiburg/Germany.
The thematic focus of the academic work should be in the field of peace, conflict and fragility with a transnational / transregional / south-south perspective. Preferably, the research focuses on the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Topics could be, for example, in the fields of:
Conflict resolution, peace agreements, and transregional peace initiatives
Social and transnational movements in uprisings, conflicts, and wars
Transnational networks of violence
Political or military interventions by external actors
Diaspora involvements in conflicts
Socio-ecological conflicts and armed conflict
Your profile
Completed PhD in political science, sociology or in a related social science
Established publication record
Very good English language skills, regional language skills are an asset, basic German communication skills can be acquired after job commencement
Fieldwork experience and willingness to conduct fieldwork in (safe) research locations
Experience in the acquisition of third-party funded research projects is advantageous
Experience in applied consultancy/advisory work is advantageous
In addition to participating in the ongoing work of the research institute, the successful candidate is expected to conduct their own scientific work (research, publications). In particular, the successful candidate is expected to apply for third-party funded research projects in their field of research. The position can be increased to full-time and beyond the initial two years through successful grant applications. There are no teaching or administrative obligations.
