2、China raises retirement age to better utilize human resource
Chinese people's average life expectancy rose to 78.6 years in 2023 from just 35 in 1949. Meanwhile, the average years of education for the newly-added workforce increased from eight years in 1982 to 14 years in 2023, thus postponing people's time for landing their first job.
The new move to gradually raise statutory retirement age over the course of 15 years from 2025 – from 60 to 63 for men, from 55 to 58 for women cadres and from 50 to 55 for women blue-collar workers – will help ease the decline in the working-age population and better utilize human resource.

3、China landlord tries to evict terminal cancer tenant, fearing death could reduce property value
A landlord in Beijing is facing immense criticism after he sent an eviction order to a tenant with late-stage cancer because he was worried that the property would lose value if she died there.
The landlord, Zhang, stated that he agreed to lease the flat below market value at 5,500 yuan (about US$770) per month as he was actively looking to sell the property.
In the lease agreement, Zhang requested that the tenant, Wang, and her husband accommodate property viewings for potential buyers.
Zhang stated he made the decision to evict the couple after noticing Wang’s baldness during a property viewing, which led him to enquire about her health.
Wang’s husband revealed that she was terminally ill with cancer. He expressed that he had not disclosed her condition to Zhang previously, as it was a private health matter and not relevant to their rental agreement.

4、China Banks on ‘Yeconomy’ to Bolster Hainan’s Duty Free Sector
Haikou, a duty-free coastal hub in Hainan Province, has become the latest Asia stop for Ye’s “Vultures Listening Party.”
The controversial performer‘s choice to host his show in Haikou was in part a bold move orchestrated by the local government to boost tourism and drive consumption amid a prolonged economic slowdown.
Haikou city officials received multiple official complaints about Ye’s controversial remarks. However, Hainan officials decided to proceed with the concert, framing it as a “historical moment, a miracle” as the city speeds up recovery from Hurricane Scorpio, which also damaged the concert stadium. The surprise performance will also help Haikou become “a performing arts hub in China,” according to the People’s Daily.
Billed as Ye’s only China destination, around 42,000 tickets for the Sunday concert, which coincided with China’s three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, sold out within minutes.

8、New soccer majors to kickstart China’s sports future with career path
The Ministry of Education of China announced plans to add 39 new soccer sports majors at universities on Friday. This highlights the current scarcity of soccer programs in higher education and underscores the pressing need for the development of Chinese soccer. While the impact of this initiative may take time to materialize, it represents a promising long-term strategy for the sport's advancement in China.

10、China unveils first analysis of moon’s hidden far side from Chang’e-6 samples
For the first time in history, Chinese scientists have revealed what kind of material lies on the far side of the moon – a mixture of basalts and foreign ejecta largely different from the previous Chinese-collected near side samples of mostly basaltic volcanic rocks.
Researchers said the Chang’e-6 mission samples “may result from the mixing of mature lunar soil with freshly ejected materials” given the existence of fresh impact craters around the landing site.
In China’s first analysis of far side lunar samples, the authors said the material showed “distinct characteristics compared to previous lunar samples”, all of which have been collected from the near side of the moon since 1969.
For example, the far side samples contain significantly more light-coloured particles such as glass and feldspar. The new samples also have a lower density, meaning it “is more loose and porous than previous lunar soils”.
