2024 Global Conference for Reciting Chinese Poetry is Coming

China is a country of poetry, where poetry not only represents the distant horizon,but also inspires people, revolutionaries, and countless young people to strive forward. Recitation is one of the important intangible cultural heritages in China. It is not only a traditional way of reading poetry in China, but also a crucial means of creating and refining poems. It serves as the best way for domestic and foreign readers to learn and appreciate Chinese poetry and other literary works. Since 2017, Shanghai University has consecutively hosted seven sessions of the Chinese Poetry Recitation Conference, and was selected as one of the fifth-session campus culture construction brands of Shanghai University in 2020.

In order to interpret and disseminate the excellent traditional culture of poetry recitation, which embeds Chinese characteristics and wisdom, to the world, Shanghai University, in collaboration with CICC Cooperation Base of Innovation on Cultural Communication· Shanghai Center and Shanghai Art Education Commission, is jointly hosting the 2024 Global Conference for Reciting Chinese Poetry. We now invite international university students from both home and abroad to actively contribute and participate.

(1) Competition Rules

①. Participants: International university students at home and abroad who love poetry recitation.

②. Works Collection: Participants are required to film their recitation videos  in accordance with the submission guidelines according to the regulations and submit them to the designated email address of the conference.

③. Expert Judging: The organizing committee of the conference will organize experts to judge, determine the list of performances, and issue honor certificates for the selected works.

(2) Time Schedule

①. Submission Period: August 8, 2024 - September 30, 2024.

②. Works Exhibition Date: November 2024, with the specific date to be determined.

(3) Work Requirements

The video format should be MP4, with a duration of about 5 minutes. The video clarity should not be less than 720P, with clear image and sound, no shaking or noise, and the file size should not exceed 500MB.

Before the deadline for works collection, participants should send their recitation works in video format to the organization’s email: yinsongdahui@163.com. The subject of the email should be “2024 Global Chinese Poetry Recitation Conference + Country name + University + Name + Title of the Work”, and contact information (email, mobile number, WeChat ID, etc.) should be provided.

(1) Compatibility of Recitation and Performance. Through reciting, participant(s) should grasp the rhythm and meter of the poems, convey the beauty of the mood and artistic conception of the poems. Appropriate instrumental music accompaniment and other artistic performances can be used to enhance the expressive power and appeal of poems recitation.

(2) Compatibility of Collective and Individual Performances. The submitted recitation works can be completed by one or multiple individuals.
