About the position
The University of Southern Denmark (SDU), in Odense, invites applications for a PhD position within the research project "Parallel Portfolio of Parallel Solvers". This project aims to push the boundaries of solving NP-hard optimization problems by developing advanced strategies for combining parallel solvers in portfolio-based approaches. The project focuses on exploring trade-offs between computational resource usage and solving efficiency, leveraging cutting-edge AI techniques, statistical modeling, and heuristic methods to create a new generation of portfolio solvers.
Research Focus: The project investigates the development of innovative portfolio solvers, applying AI, statistical modeling, and parallel computing methods to solve complex NP-hard optimization problems.
Project Leader: Prof. Jacopo Mauro, a recognized expert in algorithm selection and optimization.
Collaboration: The successful candidate will collaborate with a global research network that includes leading experts in AI, combinatorial optimization, and parallel computing.
Salary: Competitive and in line with the PhD study program at the Faculty of Science, SDU.

Requirement
Education: MSc in Computer Science or a related field.
Experience: Candidates should have experience or academic background in at least one of the following:
Parallel computing and resource allocation strategies.
AI-based techniques (e.g., Random Forests, Gaussian Processes, Reinforcement Learning, Feature Selection, Optimal Stopping, Multi-armed Bandit).
Heuristic and rule-based optimization methods.
DevOps and Distributed system development.
