Lijiang arrival

Arrive in Lijiang and take a taxi or public transportation to the hotel. Check-in.

Our hotel is located in Lijiang Old Town which is a well-preserved Naxi minority ancient town, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997. If you arrive early, you can join the guided visit through the Old Town.

Highlight: Joseph Rock former residence, Yuhu > Weihai > Laishi Lake hike

Today, we will start pretty early. After breakfast, we will drive to our hike starting point: Yuhu Village. It's a remote stone village best known for being the home of explorer Joseph Rock for over 27 years.

Today's hike is also part of the ancient Tea Horse hike trail. The first part of the hike will take about ~4 hours and involves a steep uphill and down the hills to reach Wenhai Village. Along the way, you’ll pass lush alpine forests, home to many species of plants and animals. Keep an eye open and you may spot a musk deer or Lady Amherst's pheasants. 🦌

After having a group lunch in a guesthouse, we will visit a couple of local parks and museums, will be picked up by our bus to go back to our hotel.

Highlight: Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, ancient stone city

Today, we will visit the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (~40min drive), the southernmost glacier in the Northern Hemisphere. The 13 peaks in this mountain area are the sacred mountains among the Naxi people. 

You will enjoy the charming scenery from Yak Meadow at 3,700 meters high and the crystal lake River view with snow mountain background in Blue Moon Valley! 

Early afternoon, we will drive (3h) to reach Baoshan aka the Ancient Stone City (altitude 1720meters). A village nestled at the banks of the Jinsha River, home to about a hundred families who have built their stone houses on a mushroom-shaped giant rock.

We will explore Stone City during sunset, and stay overnight in one of the local guesthouses with great views!

Highlight: Liuqing Village, boat ride, Labo Village

Get ready for a challenging hike today, starting with a hike up the Crown Prince Peak (3500m) - 10kms away north to Stone City. The good news is, the view on the way up is gorgeous. 

This part of the hike is very similar to the Tiger Leaping gorge one, with a great viewpoint. 

Gradually, we are going to trek through two channels through the mountain (2500m altitude). The first channel is about 60m long and the second (1h away) about 90m long. 

We will then continue through the downhill trail to reach Upper Liuqing Village through the pine tree woods. We will have lunch in one of the villages' local guesthouses. 

In the afternoon, we will continue our hike until reaching a small village by the Jinsha river bank. There, we will be picked up by our private car to go to next village where we gonna spend for the night. Enjoy the beautiful and peaceful views along the way. 

In the evening, we will enjoy a local dinner and have a good rest.

Highlight: Labo village - Zhuangzi village

Today's hike is easier than yesterday but still takes about 7/8 hours to finish! 

After breakfast, we will start our hike from Labo Village. On the way up the mountain, the scenery of Jinsha Valley is getting more and more beautiful with river beds getting wider!

Group lunch in the middle of the hike, in one of the villages we will pass by!

Today's final destination is Zhuangzi village, a beautiful Pumi Minority village sitting next to a forest. 

🛌 Accommodation: Zhuangzi village - Homestay guesthouse (modest accommodation, shared 3people, no toilet and bathroom in the room, shared bathroom is poor)

Highlight: Zhuangzi to Yongning hike, Lugu lake, Mosuo minority bonfire party.

After breakfast, we will leave for our final hiking day. 

We will hike uphill for 2.5-3 hours through the dense old-growth forest to Yongning Pass, with colorful praying flags. After a break at the top, we will continue about 1 hour downhill. 

We will choose a nice spot on the way to have our picnic lunch ((bring your own or buy in the morning) as there is no guesthouse nearby.

We will continue our trek downhill. Our driver will pick us up once we reach the road and drive to Zhamei Monastery - the biggest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the region. 

In the evening, take part in Mosuo minority Bonfire Party with ethnic dance and singing performance. You will dance and sing with Mosuo boys and girls around a big bonfire and celebrate what we have achieved in this adventure.

Highlight: Canoes to Liwubi Island in Lugu Lake, drive back to Lijiang. End of the trip

This morning, enjoy free time to explore Lugu Lake and take the canoes to Luwubi island, also known as "The place closest to paradise". takes about 1.5 hours. 

Drive back to Lijiang in the afternoon, end of our adventure.
