Introduction:
After the First Opium War, Shanghai began to open up to the world, and was divided to three zones, each governed by distinct regulations. After the opening of Dashijie Amusement Park in 1917, South Yunnan Road underwent a remarkable transformation, evolving into a bustling food street.
Hongchangxing
洪长兴
In 1891, Machunqiao founded the Muslim Restaurant in Shanghai, becoming the earliest establishment to introduce the famous Muslim lamb hotpot to the city. With its establishment, the restaurant brought the flavors and traditions of Muslim cuisine to the local residents and visitors of Shanghai. Notably, Machunqiao is the uncle of the renowned Beijing Opera master, Malianliang.
Wufangzhai
五芳斋
During the late Qing Dynasty, rice-stuffed pudding emerged as a delightful dessert in China. Rice-stuffed pudding features sticky rice filled with sweet ingredients and steamed in bamboo leaves, while Zongzi is sticky rice dumplings with savory or sweet fillings. Both the rice-stuffed pudding and Zongzi have become beloved culinary traditions, often enjoyed during festive occasions and cultural celebrations such as the Dragon Boat Festival.
Xiandelai
鲜得来
Established in 1921, Xiandelai holds the prestigious title of being a Time-honored Brand in China. Renowned for its delectable pork chop with rice cake, it has become a household name.
Yanyun Lou
燕云楼
Yanyun Lou was founded in 1936 and was the first to introduce Beijing Roast Duck in Shanghai. It is known for its meticulous ingredient selection, exquisite preparation, tender meat, crispy skin, and rich flavor without being greasy. there is a saying "To savor the fragrance of roast duck, one must visit Yan Yun Lou."
Little Shaoxing
小绍兴
In 1946, a brother & sister hailing from the city of Shaoxing established this restaurant. Initially, it started as a humble porridge street stall. Over time, it gained fame for its renowned specialty, cold chicken.
Dahuchun
大壶春
Dahuchun, founded in 1932, is considered a culinary memory for many old Shanghai residents. It is famous for its Shanghai-style fried dumplings.

Guanguanji Muslim Restaurant
贯贯吉穆斯林餐厅
It appears that the site initially served as a cemetery for Indian Muslims, along with a worship temple. Over time, it went through several transformations.
In 1900, the site underwent reconstruction, and further expansion took place, leading to its current scale by 1930. However, in 1966, it was converted into a warehouse. Eventually, the premises were returned to the Shanghai Muslim Association. At present, the location has been transformed into a Muslim restaurant.
Zhejiang Grand Theater
In 1930, the Spanish Beraha Brothers acquired the site, which was then designed by Hudec. As part of a public-private incorporation in 1956, it underwent a renaming and became known as Chekiang Cinema.
Shanghai Ruby Cake
In 1986, Guobingzhong discovered a ruby of significant value. The same year, a custom-made cake was created by Guo Bingzhong to honor the visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to Shanghai. The Shanghai Ruby Cake features a light and fluffy cream-covered white cake with a distinctive red cherry on top.
