Kashgar

Highlight: Arrival

Today is arrival day! You may take any flights to Kashgar but note that Airport pick up is only arranged for the recommended flight arriving at 17h25. Check-in at the hotel and free time in the evening.

Kashgar > Taxkorgan

Highlight: Sunday Bazaar, Pamirs Plateau, Bulongkol & Karakul Lake

In the morning, we will visit the famous Sunday Bazaar (livestock market) where you can see farmers and buyers arriving with all types of transportation like donkey carts, trucks, bikes, horses, motorbike...

We will then drive along the China - Pakistan Highway, you can enjoy the beautiful landscape of Pamirs Plateau. Another highlight of the route is the view that shows the central part of the plateau from the Southeast that borders 3 countries: Tajikistan in the center ⬆️ China on the right ➡️ and Afghanistan/Northern Pakistan on the left ⬅️.

You can also see the magnificent Bulongkol Lake aka Baisha Mountain. It is one of the must-sees on the way to Taxkorgan.

Last but not least, you will check the beautiful Karakul Lake where Kirghiz herdsmen usually shepherded their sheep and cattle along the lake.

In the end, we will arrive at Taxkorgan and stay there overnight.

Taxkorgan - Kashgar

Highlight: Stone Fortress, 

After breakfast, we will head to the Stone Fortress. It is shaped like an oval and the walls were built with sun-dried bricks on a stone foundation, around 1,285m in diameter. 

Then we will walk through the Golden Grassland, where you can have a better view of the Stone Fortress. Over the past few years, a wooden pathway was constructed to allow tourists to walk on these beautiful grasslands. Taking a chill walk around the vast grass field, you will be able to see the local Tajiks yurts and frame houses.

After lunch, we will drive back to Kashgar. 

We will stay overnight at Kashgar, if the night market is opened, we will have some great local food and beers there!

Kashgar - Urumqi

Highlight: Idigar Mosque, Old town, International Bazaar

We will be exploring Kashgar (قەشقەر in Uighur) city today! Our first stop for today is the Idigar Mosque, the largest and most sacred Mosque in China.

Then we will go to visit Old Town, an atypical district famous for its orange mud-brick houses.

After lunch, we will then move on to wander around the bustling Handicraft Street, where dazzling jewelry, local pottery, unique musical instruments, and other daily items are sold. 

If time allows, we can also visit a local tea house and chill there just like the locals do.

Late afternoon, We will be taking a flight to Urumqi, then stay overnight in Urumqi

Urumqi > Heavenly Lake 

Highlight: Heaven lake

In the morning, we will visit Heavenly Lake. 

Located 2000m up in the Tianshan Mountain area, the Heavenly Lake is surrounded by the snow mountains, blooming wildflowers, evergreen pine trees,.. just like walking into a fairyland. Upon arrival, we will take a 40 minutes scenic bus ride that twists through the dramatic mountains. 

You can also choose to take the cable car (optional, not incl) to explore further upon Maya Mountain to get a magnificent view of the mountains.

Tip: Lunch in the local Kazakh's Yurt is highly recommended (not incl)!

Afternoon, we will drive back to Urumqi, then visit the Xinjiang International Bazaar, one of the largest bazaars in Urumqi. You can expect a bustling market filled with fruits, clothes, hand-crafts items, carpets,... the perfect place to buy souvenirs!

Urumqi > Turpan

Highlight: Turpan, Jiaohe Ruins

After breakfast, we will drive to Turpan visit the oldest Uyghur Village - Tuyoq Village, located in the very center of the Flaming Mountain Canyon. 

This place used to be the holy area of Buddhism and Islam. The village consists of four parts: the Canyon, Thousand Buddha Caves, Maza tomb, and the old buildings of Ancient Village.

We will then proceed to drive to the Jiaohe Ruins where we can enjoy the amazing sunset. 

Jiaohe Ruins have a history dating back 2,300 years ago, it is sandwiched between two rivers on a plateau atop a 30m high cliff. The ruins are considered one of the best-preserved ruins of Ancient China. They were included in the list of World Heritage in 2014.

Turpan > Urumqi

Highlight: Karez Well, Xinjiang Regional Museum& departure

After breakfast in the morning, we will leave the hotel and make our way to the Karez Well. This unique irrigation system not only offers a chance to explore ancient engineering, but also provides a refreshing escape from the summer heat.

We will then drive to the airport. Can take any flight after 19:00.

Cancellation Policy 

If the weather is really bad and represents a risk for people's safety, or there is any government restriction,  we could cancel the trip up to 1 day in advance. The deposit would be fully refunded. Note that we are NOT responsible for flight cancellation fees. This would need to be dealt with by the airline company directly. 

All forms of outdoor recreation (including hiking) have a higher level of risk than most ordinary activities.

By participating in M2adventure's hike, you acknowledge and accept the responsibility for making your own determinations as to the suitability of the activity and for their own safety, conduct, and well-being and agrees to participate solely at your own risk.
