Pap Test
宫颈刮片检查（Pap 检查）
This test looks for abnormal cells on yourcervix. That's the lower part of your uterus. We do this test to find cells that may become cancer. It also helps us find cancer that is still in its early stages.

To begin, you lie on an exam table that supports your legs and feet. We carefully place a device called a "speculum" into your vagina. The speculum holds your vagina open so we can reach your cervix.

Now we use a special swab, brush, spatula or other device to gently collect a sample of cells and mucus from the surface of your cervix.

We may collect cells from the opening in the center of the cervix. That's called the "endocervical canal." We may collect them from the area around the cervix, too.

For most people, this isn't painful. But it can be uncomfortable.

When it's done, we watch you for a brief time, then you can go home. The samples we collected are sent to the lab for study. Your doctor will contact you to let you know the results.

If we find abnormal cells, you may need to come back for a follow-up visit. Your doctor will discuss treatment options with you.
