Juungar Banner: Migratory birds form green painting of winter
Amidst the green waters, lush mountains, and colorful clouds, birds fly back and forth. In recent years, Juungar Banner has continuously increased its efforts to protect the ecological environment. This section of the Yellow River has become an important stopover for migratory birds gathering their supplies. Different departments take multiple measures to strengthen the protection of migratory birds and allow more birds to forage and settle here.
This period of the year is the migration season for birds. In Juungar's section of the Yellow River, flocks of mandarin ducks, grey cranes, and white swans can be seen everywhere, playing and foraging in the water or spreading their wings and flying. Their graceful arrival fills Juungar with vitality and adds to this unique ecological landscape.
"I have been working in forest protection for three or four years. Every time birds migrate, we must carry out patrols and publicity daily to protect them. In recent years, ecology has improved, the types and numbers of migratory birds have increased, and the living environment has become better and better." said Wang Zhan, a forest ranger.
Juungar has actively practiced "green mountains and clear waters are as valuable as mountains of gold and silver", significantly improving its ecological environment. Every spring and winter, thousands of migratory birds pass through the area, including more than 10 species of national first-class and second-class protected animals such as white swans, geese, and grey cranes. To protect these "guests", relevant departments use technology and artificial measures to ensure that all the migratory birds safely reside in Juungar for winter.
"With the improvement of ecological construction in recent years, there have been more and more migratory birds in Juungar, mainly black storks, swans, and herons. Our protection measures include installing surveillance cameras where birds stop on migration routes and forest rangers conduct daily patrols. Nature reserve stations conduct regular and uninterrupted inspections to safeguard the migration of birds." said Xue Yong, head of the nature reserve and wildlife conservation station of Juungar forestry and grassland bureau.
In 2023, Juungar planted 287,500mu (19,166.67hectares) of ecological vegetation, including 142,500mu of forests and 145,000mu of grassland, an increase of 31.2 percent from the previous year.
