Enzyme Evolution: Innovations in Sustainable Biocatalysis

The special issue titled "Enzyme Evolution: Innovations in Sustainable Biocatalysis" aims to explore the forefront of enzyme evolution research and its transformative applications in sustainable biocatalysis. Enzymes, as nature's catalysts, possess incredible potential that can be harnessed through evolutionary processes and advanced engineering techniques to develop biocatalysts with enhanced performance and versatility. This special issue seeks to gather cutting-edge research that spans the spectrum from fundamental principles to practical applications, highlighting how evolved enzymes can address contemporary challenges in industry and environmental sustainability. Enzyme evolution encompasses methodologies from natural selection to directed evolution, aiming to optimize enzyme properties like activity, specificity, stability, and substrate range. Contributions to this special issue will explore these mechanisms, providing insights into tailoring enzymes through protein engineering and molecular design for modern biocatalytic processes.
