The World Madam Foundation and the African Renaissance and Diaspora Network (ARDN) successfully held the 7th Annual Africa Open for Business Summit on September 27, 2024, New York time, at the Trusteeship Chamber of the United Nations during the 79th General Assembly High-Level Week. This summit was co-organized by the Permanent Mission of Senegal.
Statement by Anni Huang at the United Nations Trusteeship Office
Hosted by ARDN President and CEO Dr. Djibril Diallo, the summit brought together global leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and activists to discuss Africa’s development through business and innovation. It served as a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas and strategies and harness business for sustainable progress.
The event began on September 26 with a VIP luncheon organized by the World Madam Foundation and ARDN. This exclusive gathering fostered discussions that integrated global perspectives and African heritage to drive action for sustainable development.
The summit’s two panel discussions covered key topics: "Business and Culture: Young Entrepreneurs of African Descent Driving Sustainable Development" highlighted the role of young innovators blending business with cultural heritage, while the second panel explored strategies for expanding Africa’s tourism sector.
Anni Huang stated in her speech that World Madam Foundation aims to uplift women, promote gender equality, and provide resources and platforms for women to promote their comprehensive development in business, culture, and society through global activities and initiatives. The foundation particularly focuses on the status of women in global affairs and is committed to improving women's quality of life and social standing through education, training, leadership development, and entrepreneurship support.
A major highlight was the introduction of ARDN’s new anthem, presented by Michael Zgarka, President and CEO of HitLab, symbolizing unity and commitment to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The summit also featured the 2024 ARDN Awards, recognizing individuals for their contributions to civil rights, equality, and leadership:
- Civil Rights Award: Ambassador Cheikh Niang of Senegal, for his leadership within the UN.
- Commitment to Equality Award: Olivier Laouchez, Founder and CEO of Trace TV, for promoting Afrocentric culture and combating discrimination.
- Inspirational Leadership Award: Dr. Kenneth Harris, President of the National Business League, for uniting Black business organizations through the National Alliance for Black Business (NABB).
- Inspirational Leadership Award: Chancellor Emeritus Elizabeth J. Stroble, Ph.D., for her leadership in higher education and advocating global partnerships.
The summit was supported by partners including the UNFPA, ILO, World Madam Foundation, National Business League, and National Council of Negro Women, all contributing expertise in areas such as women’s empowerment, civil rights, and economic development across the African diaspora. The event concluded with renewed commitments to unity, innovation, and leadership for Africa’s sustainable development.
