On the afternoon of June 24, the "International Youth Organizations' Permanent Ambassadors to the United Nations and Hangzhou Youth Meetup" event was held at the Hangzhou Global Youth Talent Community. Ambassador Daniel del Valle Blanco exchanged views with 15 GYTC Hangzhou youth from all walks of life on topics such as youth and sustainable development.
OIJ is an intergovernmental organization covering many regions in the Americas and Europe, with 21 members including Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala, Paraguay, etc. The organization is an observer of the United Nations General Assembly and one of the main implementing organizations of the United Nations' World Youth Action Program and the United Nations' Youth 2030 Strategy.Daniel del Valle Blanco is currently the youngest ambassador of all countries and international organizations to the United Nations. He is also the Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Observer of the Central American Integration System to the United Nations, the Chair of the UN-Habitat Youth Advisory Board, and the Senior Youth Representative of the International Human Rights Foundation (IHRF). Focusing on social and political affairs in the field of youth work, he visited institutions and organizations in various fields in China accompanied by special adviser Mr. Anni, and Zhang Guihong, Director of the Institute of International Studies and the Center for United Nations and International Organizations Studies at Fudan University etc., and exchanged views on the protection of the rights and interests of Chinese youth.
Blanco believes that if young people want to become good leaders, they need to have big dreams and pursue them boldly. "Of course, dedication is also important. We often hear the word 'dedication'. If young people want to achieve success, they need to understand the concept of 'dedication' thoroughly and work hard to implement it."
Blanco encouraged young people: "Just do it! I think nothing is impossible."(Youth Dialogue Recap)
At the exchange meeting, young lawyers who have been deeply involved in the legal industry explained their problems and views on the current state of global development based on their own work. At the same time, some young people from various universities paid attention to the technological issues in sustainable development work. They expressed their views on modern technologies such as AI and human life. The enthusiastic speeches of the young people and the wonderful answers of Ambassador Blanco won applause from the audience.
Hailey Zhong from the BRLC hopes to find theme activities that can stimulate wider international participation for the selection of BRLC operation projects from the perspective of sustainable development.
Blanco said this is a very "big" topic. "When it comes to sustainable development, we will of course pay attention to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Vision, which is also the blueprint that the United Nations is concerned about to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all." He emphasized that the 17 Sustainable Development Goals are not independent, but are interconnected and integral and inseparable, with no order of precedence.
Blanco advised that as an international organization, we really need to pay more attention to how people from different cultural backgrounds receive and understand the same topic."
"I am very surprised to hear so many high-quality questions and constructive opinions." Blanco said that it is very rare to build a platform for young people to display their confidence, which can make them feel the warmth of home.
"I am very happy to discuss with the young people in Hangzhou today. I hope there will be such opportunities in the future." Blanco said, "Hangzhou is a city full of light. It does not mean how dazzling the sun is, but that it is particularly dazzling. Hangzhou has a long history, but the whole city gives me a very modern feeling. It is a model of the fusion of ancient and modern."
Among the Hangzhou youth present, Zhou Qi, who graduated with a master's degree in social policy from University College London (UCL), is a native Hangzhou girl. She just returned to Hangzhou from London last year to work. "In my work, there are both localization and internationalization aspects, and I sometimes struggle with which one is more important."
Blanco's advice was very inspiring to her. "The ambassador told me that in the end, we still have to return to localization construction. But we can take advantage of our youth now to participate more in some international practices to learn skills." Zhou Qi said.
"Today's era faces many challenges of globalization, so we are in urgent need of change. But how to change? Who can bring about change? I think it is the youth, the new generation of youth who are full of hope for the future." said Zhang Guihong, director of the Institute of International Studies and the United Nations and International Organizations Research Center of Fudan University. He encouraged Hangzhou youth to contribute to the development of the times, and hoped that the ambassador, as the leader of an international youth organization, could lead young people from all countries to participate in global activities.
This event was hosted by the Hangzhou People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Hangzhou Global Youth Talent Community, and co-organized by the ITC. GYTC aims to build a global talent reservoir and create a city with the best talent ecology. It focuses on contacting various types of outstanding young talents around the world, including overseas young scientific research talents, returned young entrepreneurs, overseas students, foreign young talents, and domestic young talents, to contribute to attracting global talents to Hangzhou for development.
