报告摘要:

The quest for energy-efficient, high-performance computing systems has driven significant advancements in neuromorphic technologies, which aim to emulate the complex operations of biological neural networks, This talk delves into the role of memristor technologies, i.e., hybrid two-terminal and Anions/Cations-based three-terminal memristors, in advancing synaptic and neuronal device applications.

We will explore how our 40nm CMOS-integrated hybrid memristors, leveraging digital-filamentary and analog-interfacial switching mechanism, address critical metrics of synapse, such as states variation, analog conductance updates linearity and symmetry, endurance, retention, and energy efficiency. We will also discuss the three-terminal memristors, which are uniquely designed as either synapses and/or neurons. The device utilizes redox reactions and migration of ions, i.e., anion sand/or cations, highlighting their potential to emulate synaptic plasticity and neuronal behaviours with minimum energy consumption.
Implementing device-level innovations and system-level simulations using datasets of various level of complexity, i.e., MNIST, FMNIST, and CIFAR, this seminar underscores the transformative potential of memristors in reshaping the next-generation computing architectures, Through this talk we will uncover the exciting intersections of material science, device physics, and computational intelligence, showcasing how memristors are poised to reshape the landscape of artificial intelligence hardware.

报告人简介:

Dr Lew is a full-time academic staff (Professor) at the Division of Physics and Applied Physics, School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological University. He joined the University in january 2007 and is now working on building a research group focus on the research of spin injection in hybrid ferromagnetic-Ⅲ-Ⅴ-semiconductor devices. He has published 19 refereed journal papers, including two in the journal Physical Review Letters and one in the journal Nature. His research interests are spintronic and semiconductor devices, Ⅲ-Ⅴ solar cells, ultrathin epitaxial magnetic structures, and nanostructured magnetism, The applicant has been working on molecular beam epitaxy system for nine years in industrial and institution laboratories. He has vast experience in planning, designing, and setting up large scale research facilities independently. Prior to joining NTU, he worked as Research Associate at the Cavendish Laboratory where he took charge to set up a new microfabrication cleanroom and a multi-chamber six-target magnetic sensor magnetron sputtering deposition system during 2003-2006. Dr Lew is skilful in device fabrication and measurement.
