In this creative and hands-on workshop, you’ll explore how to use typography and calligraphy to craft meaningful visual allegories. Together, we’ll dive into the process of researching your chosen theme, checking its key elements, and
developing smart, conceptual ideas to bring it to life through type.
Typography surrounds us constantly. Since we’ve been communicating with it our entire lives, it’s become second nature – embedded in our flesh and blood. We almost feel type on a subconscious level. This fascinating phenomenon can be used to illustrate ideas purely through form, making type not just a tool for writing – it’s a medium for storytelling. By experimenting with the shapes, styles, and compositions of letter forms, you’ll learn how to communicate complex ideas in a visually engaging way.

Neologisms and more will be the theme of the SfVR workshop at Nanjing University of the Arts in December 2024. The focus of the investigation lies on symbols and their meanings within the context of writing and individual letters.
Students will engage with Latin letters in a playful manner, aiming to develop innovative staging concepts for presentation. Typography is approached here as an open and flexible element.
