一位巴基斯坦出生的英国舞剧制作人兼导演法鲁克.乔杜里Farooq Chaudhry，被身体残疾的中国诗人余秀华的深邃诗作深深打动。他决定以余秀华的诗歌为灵感，创作一部长篇舞剧，并由她担任主角。尽管残疾带来了身体上的极度挑战，余秀华还是无畏地在47岁首次登台跳舞。同时，法鲁克也在63岁开始了一场直面内心恐惧的生命转变之旅。过去的10年，我从一名企业CEO到独立影像创作者/即兴舞者，一层层穿越限制，逐渐找回自己，重拾儿时对艺术的爱。纪录片创作自然而然地成为我持续自我探索的方式，通过摄影机不断地好奇他者，反观自我，不断看见我们如此不同，却如此相通。余秀华的诗歌引发了地球另一端舞剧制作人/导演法鲁克情感深处的共鸣，那个巴基斯坦裔小男孩在1960年代的伦敦长大，作为社会边缘人不断穿越阴影寻找自我的共通经历。余秀华带给63岁的法鲁克再次穿越阴影拥抱真我的勇气。而身体的残疾似乎一直是余秀华不可逾越的阴影，跳舞会带给她怎样的改变？法鲁克会由此走出阴影成为自己吗？
Farooq Chaudhry, a British dance theater producer and director born in Pakistan, is deeply moved by the profound poetry of Yu Xiuhua, a Chinese poet living with physical disabilities. Inspired by Yu’s work, Farooq decides to create a full-length dance theater piece with her poetry as its foundation, casting Yu herself as the lead. Despite the extreme physical challenges posed by her disability, Yu Xiuhua fearlessly takes the stage to dance for the first time at the age of 47. Meanwhile, Farooq, at 63, embarks on his own transformative journey, confronting his inner fears and embracing change.Over the past decade, I transitioned from being a corporate CEO to an independent filmmaker and improvisational dancer. This journey has been about shedding layers of limitation, rediscovering myself, and rekindling my childhood passion for art. Documentary filmmaking has become a natural extension of my self-exploration, allowing me to continuously examine others through the camera while reflecting on myself, uncovering how we are both uniquely different and profoundly connected.Yu Xiuhua’s poetry resonated deeply with Farooq, a dance theater producer and director on the other side of the world. Growing up as a Pakistani boy in 1960s London, Farooq had lived as a societal outsider, navigating shadows and searching for selfhood—experiences that aligned with Yu’s. At 63, Farooq found the courage to step out of the shadows and embrace his true self through Yu's poetry. For Yu Xiuhua, her physical disability had always seemed an insurmountable shadow. What transformation might dancing bring to her? And will Farooq emerge from his own shadows and fully become himself?![]()
