Sometimes when people get older, they lose interest in some types of food. Their sense of smell may change, so that tasty food aromas are not noticed. They may also have problems tasting certain foods, so they don't enjoy them as they used to.

Dentures that fit badly or missing teeth can make chewing difficult. They may also have less saliva in their mouths, making it more difficult to eat. Many elderly people don't like eating large meals, as they say that they don't use much energy during the day and therefore don't need large meals.

Unfortunately, they sometimes get into a habit of not eating at all, or eating very small meals. When this happens, they can become ill and very tired.
