At WildChina Education, sustainability is not just a word but a guiding principle and the cornerstone of our educational philosophy. Each of our programs is designed to address environmental and social challenges through immersive educational experiences. Our sustainability initiatives are aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We run a variety of programs aimed at making a positive impact across different areas—social, environmental, and cultural heritage preservation—all with the unified goal of educating students and inspiring them to create positive change in communities and the environment, empowering them to make a difference in their own lives or beyond. Here are several recent initiatives that demonstrate our dedication to these goals:
Ancient Village Restoration
We recently brought students to an abandoned mining village located in Western Beijing. This village, once a nightly stop for travelers journeying to and from Beijing, later became a bustling mining area. However, residents were forced to move out in the 1980s due to concerns about ground instability from numerous mine shafts. In the 2000s, a survey revealed that the ground was stable, but the village had already been deserted for decades.
Mr. Wang, a former hospital director and an influential community figure, acquired the property rights and dedicated his retirement to preserving the memory of his beloved village. Recently, with the rise of historical interest and rural tourism, Mr. Wang’s dedication to heritage preservation has gained attention. His story underscores the importance of valuing our history and cultural roots. We support efforts like his to keep the spirit of our past alive.
During their visit, students immersed themselves in the village’s rich history and culture. They made coal bricks, played traditional team-based folk games, and hiked with a local herb expert to learn about indigenous herbs.
These experiences offered invaluable insights into the village’s past and its community’s resilience, aligning with SDGs 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
Service Learning
We teamed up with Jiguang Public Welfare to organize a service activity aimed at fostering empathy and creating transformative experiences. As part of collaboration program with Chengdu and Tianjin international schools, students engaged in a guided walk with visually impaired individuals, providing companionship and support throughout the journey. The genuine bonds formed during this one-hour excursion underscored the power of mutual care and highlighted the profound impact of human connection.
After the walk, students and visually impaired participants gathered for a buffet lunch, where students assisted their partners in selecting dishes and shared meaningful conversations. Here, students assisted their partners in selecting dishes and engaged in meaningful conversations. The event concluded with an insightful feedback session, where both groups reflected on the importance of inclusivity in society and exchanged valuable perspectives. This program aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
Mangrove Conservation Program
We collaborated with Mr. Chen, a dedicated local researcher in Xiamen, for our Mangrove Conservation Program. Mr. Chen assisted students in researching key indicators of mangrove health, planting saplings, and preparing presentations to raise awareness about environmental stewardship and the importance of mangrove ecosystems. During these sessions, students actively brainstormed strategies to combat mangrove degradation and enhance community awareness. Mr. Chen provided valuable feedback, guiding students in effective environmental practices. Through these experiences, we aim to encourage students to take environmental responsibility for their actions and seize the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in conservation practices.
At WildChina Education, we believe that these initiatives go beyond educational journeys, they provide students with practical skills, develop empathy, and empower them to advocate for a sustainable future. We are committed to nurturing responsible individuals who will continue to make a positive difference long after their experiences with WildChina Education. This program focused on achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 13 (Climate Action), and 14 (Life Below Water).
