With the support of the business school and student association, the first demo meeting of SUFE bilingual club was held successfully and smoothly on the evening of Nov. 18.

At the opening, one of the organizers, Daisy, shared why she and the team came up with the idea to build this club. She said they saw many students express strong passion on English learning and speech skills building in the preliminary course "How to do Presentation", they believe this set of capabilities is practical and beneficial for every single business student. The club aim to offer: 1. A platform for SUFE MBA/EMBA members to practise the presentation skills, Daisy said that "similar to any other techniques, we have to keep exercising until we find it's comfortable psychologically and physically when we speak in front of a large group of people". 2. A stage for the students to illustrate themselves, as many of the students are lack of the chances to share their insights and experience for the industries they acquainted with. 3. A community for the students to learn from each other, given that there are many talents in MBA/EMBA society.

In the meeting, there were two prepared speakers and they were each given 7 to 10 minutes. One of the speakers shared how he transitioned himself from a shy boy, who used to shake while talking to his classmates, to a confident speaker and easily pick up a topic to give public speaking at any time.

The impromptu speech portion of the meeting involved several participants being invited to the stage by the hostess to answer a question and share their thoughts for a few minutes.

There were also three officers who served as the Grammarian, Timer, and Ah-Counter throughout the session.

I have the honor to participate in the first demo meeting of SUFE bilingual speech club , and it is the first time to attend in the English activity and serve as the Ah-Counter officer, which is also an opportunity to exercise myself and challenge myself.

The Ah-Counter officer is in charge of recording and count the redundant words or unnecessary "ahhs" in the course of the speech. Reducing this situation can help the speaker improve his or her speech.

Through listening carefully to the speech of the whole audience, I found that many excellent friends only used a few redundant words that need emotional cohesion, and even some did not use redundant words, which fully shows that their speech level has reached a new height.

At the same time, the club encourage everyone to go on stage and to speak, perhaps the speech level is accumulated from a speech, so as to achieve quantitative change to qualitative change.

In the future, I will actively participate in the club activities, play an active role, experience the speech process from different angles, and hope to grow together with SUFE speakers.

It was a challenging but rewarding experience. I, as the Timer, need to pay attention to the speaker's words and keep track of the time without losing focus. But I can help the speakers achieve their goals, improve their skills and learn a lot from listening to different speeches and observing the way they are delivered. Listen to captivating stories and experience unique fun. You're also worth a try!
