Hey everyone, welcome back to Yapping with Michael. The subject I want to talk about with you guys today is what happens when you're told that you don't have a talent in the subject. I'm going to talk about this from three points.

First of all, how I felt when I discovered that some people thought I don't have a talent in something. No. 2, how I dealt with it, and No. 3, some tips about this.

Well, an overview about this: When I was younger, growing up, I wasn't exactly the type with a lot of talent, especially in any sports, contrary to popular belief, I think. But um, so how I felt when someone initially told me that you don't have a talent. It's not usually the coach that tells you that you don't have a talent. Sometimes they'll tell someone else, and then you'll learn that the coach thinks that you don't have a talent from that other person. Or it's just the coach's or the teacher's attitude in class when they are teaching you that you realize that they maybe think you don't have enough talent or that you're kind of wasting their time there.

So, how did I initially feel when I am told, or I feel like the coach feels like I don't have a talent? First of all, you're gonna feel disappointment, especially if it's a sport or a subject that you really want to pursue a career in, or even if you just enjoy doing it. Because you think,  I really like doing this thing, but then someone thinks I don't have a talent at it. So it's a little disappointing. And does that mean I'm a waste of time or something like that? You can't think like that. Disappointment is normal, but you can't succumb to the idea that you are a waste of time in that subject. No one is a waste of time.

If you work hard enough in this thing you want to do, then if you want to do this thing, you should keep working hard enough and not be insulted or defeated by some little thoughts of disappointment. And so that's how I felt, and that's kind of how I dealt with it. I was just telling myself like, you know what, you wanted to do this, okay, don't let what the coach says defeat you and stop you from doing it. It's the first way I dealt with it.

After that, one important thing about this is that before knowing and after knowing that the coach feels like you don't have a talent in something, you can't show any difference in your attitude in class or in practice. What that means is basically you still have to—especially, well, this will be normal and easy if you really want—if you really enjoy this thing, but you can't show any difference in the attitude, in the amount of effort and energy you put into these practices and classes, like before and after you realize that the coach thinks you don't have a talent or the teacher.

Because that way, even if the teacher really thinks you don't have a talent, they will still think, okay, this kid at least pushes himself, he works hard, so he's not a complete waste of time. He could be something maybe. And so the coach won't give you as much of an attitude then if you just stop working hard completely. And also, if you really want to do this thing that you're doing right now, you wouldn't stop working hard just because the teacher says, or the teacher feels like you don't have a talent. If you're a little disappointed, you would want to keep working hard to try and achieve what you want to achieve.

Which brings me to the tips. First of all, just like going back through everything that I said, you gotta not be defeated by disappointment, and you have to keep working hard even if people think you don't have a talent. But also, you have to make sure that you know what you want to achieve in the school, and you have to actually want to do what you're doing in this. You have to have that ultimate goal that you want to achieve, have that thing you want to get to, or just think about it and do the best you can in this subject that you are currently doing.

Because if you don't have that feeling, if you don't have the heart to motivate yourself, you won't really care as much after the teacher says you don't have a talent. Because disappointment, like I said, it can go two ways. It can go bad, which basically defeats you completely and makes you want to stop doing what you've been doing or what you want to do. Or it can turn into motivation, which basically brings out like a fire and the energy in your heart, telling yourself that everyone else thinks that I can't do this, so I'm gonna—well, not exactly prove to them that I can, but prove to myself that I can.

Which means that you should never give up on yourself, which is also a very important thing. You don't give up on yourself, and you don't give up on your goals. You want to prove to yourself that you can actually do what everyone else thinks that you can't do.

And so the main takeaway we can have from this is to not give up on yourself and not be disappointed when someone says or thinks that you don't have a talent in something. So that's it for today. The end. Bye!
