Nurse: Can you tell me what happened today?

Mother: Jenny had an extra dose of paracetamol.

Nurse: It was an accident.

Mother: Oh, I see. How did it happen?

Nurse: I gave her some at lunchtime. My husband gave her another dose an hour later. He didn't know that I had already given her some. I feel terrible. How could we do this to her?

Nurse: I know that it's difficult, but you brought her to the hospital as soon as possible.

Mother: I am worried that it's too late. Can't you do something for her?

Nurse: I know it's upsetting, but I have to ask some more questions about what happened.

Mother: Oh, okay.

Nurse: Can you tell me how much paracetamol your daughter took?

Mother: I'm not sure. I gave her 200 milligrams of the liquid medicine.

Nurse: How much do you usually give her?

Mother: She usually has 5 mils. My husband gave her 2 tablets as well.

Nurse: I don't know what the dose is.

Mother: Two tablets equal 1 gram. She also had 200 milligrams of liquid medicine, so she has had 1.2 grams of paracetamol.

Nurse: Oh dear, that sounds quite a lot. We will do a blood test in a few hours to see how much paracetamol is still in her body.

Mother: What will you do after the blood test?

Nurse: If your daughter needs it, she'll have some medicine in a drip to counteract the effect of the paracetamol.

Mother: I see, thank you.
