Why we are recruiting

As China announced its 2060 carbon neutrality commitment in 2020, the Forum sees an opportunity to support key government and business partners in reaching the ambitious goal. Leveraging its presence in China and expertise within its Centre for Nature and Climate and Centre for Energy and Materials, the Forum has created a dedicated China Climate Action programme in the country.

Through the China Climate Action programme, the Forum has collaborated closely with relevant Chinese government departments, state-owned enterprises, private companies, relevant business associations, research institutes and academic partners to help key stakeholders contribute to accelerating value-chain decarbonization and energy transition in China and achieve its ambitious net-zero goals. 

The Forum is seeking to hire an Operations Specialist to support the China Climate Action team and its programme delivery in China. In general, this role will have three components:

  • Ensure the efficient operations of the programme
  • Support the programme in its collaboration with external institutions
  • Support the programme in communications, event, and community delivery


Reporting lines and interactions

The role will be based in the World Economic Forum’s Beijing Representative Office, reporting to the Head of Climate and Resources.


Main responsibilities

  • Facilitate team collaboration by coordinating meetings and other cross-office (between Geneva and Beijing) and cross-programmatic activities
  • Support grant management by collaborating closely with the Head of Climate and Resources and the Operations Lead in Geneva, including tracking critical project deliverables, monitoring and reconciling budgets, and drafting comprehensive donor reports
  • Support knowledge partner and service provider management, including drafting requests for proposal, assessing and selecting vendors, and maintaining regular communication and coordination with the knowledge partners / service providers to ensure fulfillment of contractual requirements and all procedures required by the Forum.
  • Support organizing events, including the Forum’s Annual Meeting and the Annual Meeting of the New Champions, by facilitating program coordination, logistics, participant engagement, and others
  • Support community-building by providing operational and coordination support to organize community activities and foster relationships with key stakeholders
  • Assist with communication activities of the Climate Action team in collaboration with other programme specialists
  • Provide other operational and coordination support to the Climate Action team as requested


The successful candidate will be assessed on

  • Excellent cross-cultural verbal and written communication skills
  • Successfully juggling competing priorities, with shifting parameters, to deliver to the highest standards and to agreed deadlines
  • Professionalism in responding to requests and interacting with internal and external stakeholders
  • Dynamic team player and willing to support and collaborate to advance programme delivery
  • A great contributor to operational efficiency of the team, including level of support in making the best use of digital tools and effectiveness in following Forum processes

Preferred requirements and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in business administration, sustainability, international development, journalism, public relations, or equivalent.
  • Approximately 1-3 years of experience in event coordination, management and related communications in a demanding professional environment
  • Knowledge and interest in the climate change and carbon neutrality related agenda
  • Excellent written, digital and verbal communication skills with fluency in English and Mandarin
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel); familiarity with Salesforce an advantage
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational, project and time management skills, and possess high attention to detail
  • Team player and self-starter who enjoys working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
