Hey everyone!

Here’s the scoop on our third day, filled with cultural immersion, fascinating stories, and unforgettable experiences.

We kicked off the day with a visit to Wallabi Ancient Village (古村落瓦拉比) to explore intangible cultural heritage museum.

Intangible Inheritance Museum

Originally, we had planned to go hiking, but the rain prompted us to swap our schedule with the next day. In Wallabi, we visited a women's textile and weaving cooperative. We were incredibly fortunate to be there on a day when many Ah ma's (阿妈) were present, allowing us to witness their craftsmanship firsthand.

Textile Patterns

It was truly captivating to see how they balance preserving their traditional craft with the business side of making a living. The intricate patterns and techniques they use are a testament to their dedication and skill.

Then came a fun part: trying on traditional Mosuo outfits. Everyone looked amazing! The vibrant colors and unique designs of the outfits added a festive touch to our day. Lunch was another highlight, featuring traditional Mosuo dishes that were both delicious and comforting.

After a short lunch break, we headed to Upper Daluoshi Village (大落水上村) and visited a traditional Siheyuan (四合院). There, we met Awu Phuntsok (阿乌平措), who shared stories about his family structure and his walking marriage. His tale of rowing a boat for four hours across the lake to see his lover was incredibly romantic but also a reminder of the lengths people will go for love.

Dinner at Siheyuan

Dinner was another traditional meal. We enjoyed their 腊肉 (cured meat) and a variety of local dishes. The flavors were rich and hearty, a perfect end to our day.

Post-dinner, we hiked up to Rizun Temple (日尊寺), where we had the privilege of talking to the Lama. He discussed Tibetan Buddhism, the history of the temple, and various other intriguing topics. His down-to-earth manner made complex concepts accessible and engaging. We felt extremely grateful for the hour he spent with us, especially considering his busy schedule and the rarity of such opportunities for outsiders.

Back at the hotel, we held a group reflection session while sipping on 芝麻糊 (sesame paste). It was a cozy and contemplative time, sharing our thoughts and experiences from the day. We also drew Tangka symbols we had observed, which was a soothing and creative way to end the evening.

Homework time

By the time we went to bed, everyone was thoroughly exhausted but fulfilled. The day was packed with meaningful interactions, cultural insights, and personal reflections. We all slept soundly, ready for the adventures the next day would bring.

Can't wait to share more adventures with you all soon! 😊
