Associate Professor Guoqi Qian
Guoqi Qian is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Melbourne. He holds a BSc in Computational Mathematics, a PhD in Statistics, and a Graduate Certificate of university teaching. He has published over 100 research papers, developed 2 computing software packages, and successfully supervised 20 PhD, 6 Honours and 51 master students.
Associate Professor Guoqi Qian focuses on both basic and translational research in statistics and applied mathematics driven by real-world problems and challenges in climate and Earth sciences and genomic studies. In this presentation, Associate Professor Qian will introduce a novel modelling and forecasting method for irregular and infrequent time series in natural hazard study. This method integrates stochastic differential equations and Markov chain Monte Carlo for data imputation, converting irregular and infrequent time series into regularly timed high-frequency time series, and forecastes by spatial-temporal autoregression and interpolation.
