Recently, social media has been buzzing with tourists in Sanya, Hainan, who report feeling surrounded by Russians. It's become a common sight to see Russian tourists everywhere, from the beaches of Dadonghai to the top of Luhuitou Park, and even outside Northeastern cuisine restaurants like Dumpling King.

Sanya has transformed into a second home for many Russians. Walking around Dadonghai, one might feel like they’ve stumbled into a Russian neighborhood. Store signs and labels are now often in both Chinese and Russian, making it incredibly convenient for Russian visitors. However, this cultural blend sometimes leads to amusing mistranslations due to translation software errors.

The popularity of electric scooters among Russians is noticeable. Many Russian vloggers praise the practicality and affordability of these scooters, which are a common sight in Sanya.

Russian tourists are also keen beachgoers, often spending entire days sunbathing, a pastime they cherish but find puzzlingly underappreciated by Chinese visitors. Sanya's tourist spots, from the Nanshan Temple to the glass bridge in Yalong Bay Forest Park, are popular among Russian visitors, who often comment on the crowds.

Sanya's "No. 1 Harbor City," also known as "Big Pineapple," is a must-visit for Russian tourists. This shopping and leisure complex is frequently mentioned in Russian travel blogs, with many visitors engaging in enthusiastic photo sessions outside the mall. The presence of Russian-speaking staff in stores like McDonald's further enhances their shopping experience.

Food is another significant part of the Russian tourist experience in Sanya. While local seafood and snacks are appreciated, many Russians seek familiar flavors. Popular choices include pork rice bowls, spicy hot pot, and dumplings, often paired with inexpensive local beer. Some tourists even search for the best Japanese restaurants or Western eateries with Russian menus.

Healthcare and wellness are also major draws for Russian tourists. Many visit Sanya for traditional Chinese medicine treatments, including massages and herbal remedies, often seeking to treat chronic conditions. This practice dates back to earlier collaborations, such as when Sanya City Hospital treated Russian children injured in the Beslan terrorist attack.

Sanya has been a popular destination for Russians since the first charter flight from Russia to Hainan in 1997. The number of Russian tourists has continued to grow, especially with recent policy changes that make travel easier, including visa-free entry and direct flights.

The influx of Russian tourists has led to various cultural exchanges, with local authorities even sending tourism police to Moscow for training. The efforts to cater to Russian visitors are evident, with educational initiatives like "100 Useful Russian Phrases for Sanya Tourism" aimed at improving service quality.

Despite their past preference for European destinations or Southeast Asian beaches, recent geopolitical changes and improved tourism infrastructure have made Sanya increasingly attractive to Russian travelers. Online discussions about Sanya’s weather, local cuisine, and transportation options are common, highlighting the growing interest in this tropical paradise.

The economic dynamics behind this trend are also intriguing. Many Russians convert rubles to yuan to spend in Sanya, later exchanging leftover yuan for dollars, and finally converting dollars back to rubles upon returning home. This financial maneuver often results in a profit, further incentivizing their trips to Sanya.

With its beautiful beaches, warm climate, and welcoming atmosphere, Sanya has become a top destination for Russian tourists, creating a unique cultural blend and boosting the local economy.
