BUTTERFLY
CHILDREN'S HOSPICES
Introduction & The Ancient Origins of Philanthropy and Giving:
The idea which began with philanthropy started long before in ancient China and throughout civilizations of antiquity; however, it isn’t only attributed to these cultures.
Long before, there was a man called, Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama, who lived in Nepal from 563 to 483 Before the Common Era). He wanted to help others, while he gave up being a prince to become a guru/holy man, and he believed he could do greater things for the world--than living in a palace. With the building of Buddhist monasteries, the monks took it upon themselves to live lives without possessions and helping the poor; while cooking food for them (usually, during the morning breakfast) in the temples.
Philanthropic actions spread through East and Southeast Asia (Hindus also do it in their temples, to share food with a stranger, the poor or less fortunate), and this has extended around the planet. The Hebrew and Arab cultures also practiced the art of giving in ancient times.
This hasn’t stopped, only grown, it continued throughout: the Middle East, Continental Africa and especially when the Roman Catholic Church (First Century of the Common Era until the Present) started establishing their churches and monasteries, there were more charities going around.
By this time, the “Good Samaritan rule” was established in Christianity and has continued into the present. It all began with giving a stranger in need a warm bed, food and clothes for the night--without expecting anything in return. Others believed, it was all about giving to others who needed it the most. Therefore, giving has also been an integral part of human history and there is that special feeling about helping others. Never ignoring other peoples’ necessities, because someday we might also need assistance or help.
Mother Teresa (1910 - 1997) did it throughout her lifetime in Southeast Asia (India). Some people would call that--Christian love or charity, but I am not religious in any way or fashion, and would have to disagree.
Helping others ought to be something ever-present in the human spirit, it comes from the heart and it doesn’t matter a person’s ethnic group/background, social class, origins, politics, religion, atheist or agnostic. It is a part of who we are, the social fabric, and it ought be part of the human condition in helping others. If not, what do we become? Since there is an old saying from John Marston’s play in 1610 (Histrio-Mastix), which expresses the concept perfectly, “Charity begins at home!”
Therefore, let’s call it for the sake of avoiding an argument--basic humanity. To share something with our fellow human beings in dire straits: whether these people are hungry, for the poor, homeless, born with mental illnesses or deformities and have been destitute/rejected from the normalcy of everyday society. The assistance we give each other is something very humanitarian and it is part of believing in something greater than ourselves. The action of helping others, feeling good and having a social consciousness to better our world. That is the whole point of it, indeed!
Plus, if we as individuals have it at hand, why not share it with others? We can all contribute and make our respective societies much better for all those with limitations.
Here it where the Butterfly Charity comes into play, and it certainly pulls at the heartstrings; because it deals with the most important part of this organization, the children...
The Butterfly Charity, how long does it go back and what does it do?:
The Butterfly Charity is one of the first organizations which came to the city of Changsha in 2006, and has remained an active entity to help children whom have been abandoned or are too sick for home care.
Founded by its CEO, Lyn Gould. It started as the BCH (Butterfly Children’s Hospices). Basically, it’s an holistic approach to palliative care; especially in a culture where everything is so sensitive, secretive and private about these major issues. The BCH is the greatest helper in comfort care for children with disabilities, illnesses, physically challenged or orphaned. In a world which these things can seem hopeless, they are the best and most hopeful group across the city of Changsha and China.
To date, this organization deals with over 200 children, and it continues growing in many positive ways. However, it does need your support/assistance with help, volunteer work and donations to continue its function for many years to come: and assist children in need with proper medical care and love.
Here is one of the biggest reasons to help those in need. For whom? A person might ask. It was created specifically for the children. The children’s voices need to be heard the loudest, and they are the future of the world. That’s why, we shouldn’t abandon them! Let’s put it this way, (and again) it feels good when we help others; because we never know when we will need the help from a complete stranger.
I learned a long-time-ago, that to develop better lives, children need all the love, help and hope they can get. After all, like the old Nigerian saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child!”
Max Bobetsky proposed the following idea, “We should give to all charities, not only one. In other words, give when we have the resources and means to do so. Not just for the sake of giving, but it is about giving to those charities we believe in and the closest to our hearts!” It isn’t always about denoting money, a charity is developed through its volunteers. Those for example: who help with the work, cooking the meals and volunteering their services to raise donations for this particular cause.
People like Mister Bobetsky has denoted in the past his singing talents and time to raise awareness. Last time, Max in one of the activities sponsored by Mister Damion Braithwaite, sang the beautiful operetta, “Panis Angelicus (Bread of Angels in Latin)”.
To recap, conclude & for further info:
It’s all about developing social consciousness to help our children inherit a better world. They are the future.
