For Manette Baillie, life has always been an adventure (冒险). At 102, she’s still pushing herself to the limits. Recently, she celebrated her 102nd birthday with a skydive (跳伞). That makes her the oldest skydiver in the UK.
Born in England, Manette is no stranger to extreme sports. For her 100th birthday, she raced a Ferrari (法拉利) at 130 miles per hour. She didn’t do anything for her 101st birthday, so she really wanted to do something exciting for her 102nd birthday.
Her father did a skydive when he was 83 and fell in love with it. So Manette thought, “If he can do it at 83, why can’t I do it at 102?” With the help of her friends and family, she took to the skies to celebrate her 102nd birthday.
For Manette, it was a new experience. “When the airplane door opened, it was a bit scary. But then I thought, ‘There is nothing more I can do or say.’ So I just jump!” she said. Manette hopes her jump will encourage (鼓励) other old people not to give up anything.
It’s hard to imagine (想象) what Manette might take on next. She’s always looking for new adventures. Whether it’s racing high-speed cars or skydiving at 102, Manette’s life shows that life doesn’t have to slow down (放慢节奏) as we age. We can always follow new dreams and make a difference in the world, no matter how many candles are on our birthday cake.
