It's a topic that is never far from the mind of an expat: how much longer will you be in China?
We're polling our readership to determine the turnover rate of Beijing’s expat community.
First off, we're not claiming this is the be-all and end-all of scientific, statistically precise surveys. To achieve that, we would need a multilingual survey that covers all the possible languages that expats speak, not just English. Additionally, we'd need to spend a lot more effort and money to ensure that the message reaches all expats in every corner of the city.
However, we can use our readership of jingkids and the Beijinger as a rough barometer of the average tenure of the typical Beijing expat.
Some say that living in Beijing is like attending university: with people dropping out, transferring or eventually graduating in four years. With the ever-changing landscape of the city and the occasional bout of homesickness, it's no wonder that the turnover rate can be quite high.
