You’ve heard of the Girl Scouts, but what’s it like to be a member? Sixteen-year-old Alice Cantarutti has been a Girl Scout for five years and is a proud part of Ambassador Troop 05730 in Beijing.

Having been a part of Girl Scouts for several years allows you to start to understand what it truly means to be a Girl Scout. Many would associate it with Girl Scout cookies, camping, and badges, but it is so much more than that. Being a Girl Scout is like having a second family that’s all about growth, adventure, and togetherness. It’s a journey that begins with a single step into the unknown, where every campout, every hike, and every experience is a chance to explore something new. The adventures we go on, from pitching tents under starlit skies to navigating the challenges of a rock-climbing wall, teach us resilience and courage. Each trail we blaze and each summit we reach is a testament to our growing independence and strength.
In the midst of these adventures, we learn the importance of teamwork and the joy of shared achievements. The bonds made over a campfire or during a community service project are lasting. These adventures aren’t just about fun, they also allow us to discover our limits and then push past them.
Through these experiences, we grow not just as Girl Scouts but as individuals who are ready to face life’s challenges with a sense of adventure and a spirit of camaraderie. Being a Girl Scout is about embracing the journey, where every step is a lesson in becoming the best version of ourselves.
