安晓琳并不喜欢付桃花提出的这个行为艺术的创作计划。

从上小学开始，安晓琳就喜欢俄罗斯画家伊里亚·叶菲莫维奇·列宾创作的那些油画。养父龙旦告诉过她，列宾是19世纪俄国巡回展览画派的头号代表画家，他被认为是现实主义和批判现实主义的画家之一。那个时候，古典主义让位于浪漫主义，随后浪漫主义又受到现实主义的冲击。俄国的画家们坚持文艺理论家车尔尼雪夫斯基提出的 “美就是生活” 的艺术思想，强调民族特点，反对俄罗斯艺术的西欧化。

Since elementary school days, An Xiaolin had been fond of the oil paintings created by a Russian artist named Ilya Yefimovich Repin. Her foster father, Dan Loong, told her that Repin was the most representative painter of ‘the 19th century Russian Touring Exhibition Painting School’, and he was considered one of the painters of realism and critical realism. At that time, classicism gave way to romanticism, which was then impacted by realism. Russian painters adhered to the artistic philosophy of ‘beauty is life’, proposed by the literary theorist Chernyshevsky, emphasizing Russian national characteristics and opposing the westernization of Russian arts.

《伏尔加河上的纤夫们》是列宾的代表作。这幅画布油画，作于1870年至1873年，高131.5厘米，宽281厘米，收藏在位于圣彼得堡的俄罗斯国立美术馆。

‘The Boatmen on the Volga River’ was Repin's representative work. This canvas oil painting was created between 1870 and 1873, measuring 131.5 centimeters in height and 281 centimeters in width. It was housed in the Russian State Art Museum in St. Petersburg.

我们中国人，在歌曲中经常会唱到黄河上的船夫们。比如早已成为经典曲目的《黄河大合唱》，就有一首混声合唱《黄河船夫曲》。龙旦说得好，“每次听到《黄河船夫曲》，我都会感到惊心动魄的灵魂震颤！”

We Chinese people often sang songs about the boatmen on the Yellow River. For example, the classic song ‘The Yellow River Cantata’ had a mixed choir called ‘The Yellow River Boatmen’. Dan Loong said it well, “Every time I hear 'The Yellow River Boatmen', I feel a heart stopping soul tremor.”

安晓琳小时候就看过《黄河大合唱》的录像。那是诗人光未然和作曲家冼星海共同谱写的一个急就章，为中国军民打赢那场抗日战争，发挥了巨大而持久的精神鼓舞作用。

When she was young, An Xiaolin watched the video of ‘The Yellow River Cantata’. That was an urgent chapter created by the poet Guang Weiran and the composer Xian Xinghai, which played a huge and sustained spiritual inspiring role for the victory of the Chinese military and civilians in the War of Resistance Against the Japanese Intruders.

在美洲，在欧洲，在澳洲，在今天的台湾岛，很多民间的华人合唱团，都会经常公演这首《黄河船夫曲》。

In the Americas, Europe, Australia, and today's Taiwan Island, many folk Chinese choirs often performed this ‘The Yellow River Boatmen Song’.

“（白）啊，朋友！你见过黄河吗？你到过黄河吗？你渡过黄河吗？你还记得河上的船夫，拼着性命，和惊涛骇浪搏战的情景吗？如果你已经忘掉的话，那么，你听吧！……（唱）不怕那千丈波浪高如山！不怕那千丈波浪高如山！行船好比上火线，团结一心冲上前！咳！划哟！咳！划哟！咳！划哟！咳！划哟！咳哟——咳哟！……我们看见了河岸，我们登上了河岸……”

(Spoken Part) Ah, my dear friends! Have you ever seen the Yellow River? Have you ever been to the Yellow River? Have you ever crossed the Yellow River? Do you still remember the scenes of boatmen fighting with their lives against the raging waves on the river? If you have forgotten them, then please listen to us......(Singing) Don't be afraid of those waves towering like mountains! Don't be afraid of the towering waves! Sailing is like going to the front line. Unite as one and charge forward! Ahem! Go ahead! Ahem! Go ahead! Ahem! Go ahead! Ahem! Go ahead! We have already seen the riverbank. 安晓琳的父亲并不姓安。他的名字是钱亿兆。

An Xiaolin's father did not have the family name An. His name was Qian Yizhao.

安是她母亲的姓。

An was her mother's family name.

钱亿兆和龙旦、冯狗毛是发小，也是同学。用冯狗毛的话来说，“爷们仨，是光着屁股一起长大的。”

Qian Yizhao, Long Dan and Feng Goumao are childhood friends and also classmates. In Feng Goumao's words, “The three of us have grown up together since we were naked.”

但是，这三个人的人生轨迹，却大相径庭，极为迥异。

However, the life trajectories of these three people were very rather different and extremely dissimilar.

龙旦和钱亿兆参加了全国高考，分别被两所大学录取。后来，两人都成了大学教师。

Dan Loong and Qian Yizhao took the national higher education entrance examination and were admitted to two universities respectively. Later, they both became university teachers.

钱亿兆的妻子，也就是安晓琳的母亲，名叫安琪，在安晓琳3岁那年，因为感情问题和心理问题，喝了一瓶百草枯，然后跳了楼。

Qian Yizhao's wife, who was An Xiaolin's mother, was named An Qi. When An Xiaolin was three years old, due to emotional problems and psychological issues, she drank a bottle of paraquat and then jumped off a building.

用钱亿兆的话来说，这就是一对夫妻因为一件小事发生了争执，两口子吵了一架。后来，一条狗来到女人的身边，趁虚而入，摇尾乞怜。女人顿感安慰，觉得这条狗比她的丈夫要好一千倍，一万倍。但是，这条狗后来又跑远了，女人再也摸不到它了。

In Qian Yizhao's words, that meant that a couple had an argument over a small matter and had a quarrel. Later, a dog came to the woman's side and took advantage of the situation to fawn on her. The woman immediately felt comforted and thought this dog was a thousand times and ten thousand times better than her husband. However, later this dog ran far away and the woman could never touch it again.

钱亿兆遂看破红尘，心灰意冷，辞去公职，到终南山的一个佛寺里修行去了。离开家之前，他把女儿托付给了一个让他觉得最放心的人，那就是龙旦。

Qian Yizhao then saw through the vanity of the world and was disheartened. He resigned from his public position and went to practice in a Buddhist temple in the Zhongnan Mountain. Before leaving home, he entrusted his daughter to the person he felt most at ease with. That was, Dan Loong.

龙旦那时候已经成了一个单身汉。他的妻子那塔莎因为超生，被开除了公职。好在夫妻早就办理了离婚手续，所以龙旦的公职才没有受到影响。

At that time, Dan Loong had become a bachelor. His wife, Na Tasha, was dismissed from the public office due to having more children than allowed. Fortunately, Long Dan's public office position was not affected, because the couple had gone through their divorce procedures. 

那塔莎后来申请到了美国的绿卡，所以就只身前往纽约，在当地开了一家中餐馆。

Na Tasha later applied for a US green card, so she went to New York alone and opened a Chinese restaurant there.

龙旦独自一人，带大了自己的两个儿子——龙圣男和龙圣婴，以及钱亿兆的女儿安晓琳。

Dan Loong alone brought up her two sons, Long Shengnan and Long Shengying, as well as An Xiaolin, Qian Yizhao's daughter.

付桃花与安晓琳从上幼儿园时就一直是最要好的朋友。有一天，安晓琳的养父龙旦送给付桃花一个芭比娃娃。从那之后，付桃花就经常自己动手，给她心爱的芭比娃娃缝制各种服装。

Fu Taohua and An Xiaolin had been best friends since kindergarten. One day, An Xiaolin's foster father, Dan Loong, presented Fu Taohua with a Barbie doll. Since then, Fu Taohua had often sewn various clothes for her beloved Barbie doll by herself.

再后来，付桃花的母亲郑美丽，去到冯狗毛的鼓班演唱西北民间戏曲二人台。她给自己取了两个艺名，头一个是芭比娃娃，第二个是玻璃耗子。

Later, Fu Taohua's mother, Zheng Meili, went to Feng Goumao's drum troupe to sing the Errentai Opera, a folk opera of Northwest China. She gave herself two stage names. The first one was Barbie Doll, and the second one was Glass Mouse.

马晗，女，白族，1994年出生于武汉。她的童年，是在一个剪纸的艺术世界里度过的——她的母亲是西安人，回族，手工艺者。

Ma Han, female, Bai ethnic nationality, was born in Wuhan in 1994. Her childhood was spent in an artistic world of paper cutting. Her mother is from Xi'an, of Hui ethnic group, and was a handicrafts woman.

马晗的父亲，在汶川地震的第二天就参加了救援队，在灾区的抗震救灾工作中，不幸牺牲。

Ma Han's father joined the rescue team on the second day after the Wenchuan earthquake and unfortunately sacrificed himself in the earthquake relief work in the disaster area.

朱丹的家，在北京市的密云县。

Zhu Dan's home was in Miyun County, Beijing City.

北京的考生，高考录取分数线，低于外省的考生，而美术生的分数线，又低于普通的考生。朱丹的父母，都是地地道道的农民，但他们对于女儿和儿子的教育，一向很重视。朱丹是在上初中的时候，受到了美术老师的启蒙，从捏泥人开始，爱上了雕塑。

For examinees in Beijing City, the college entrance examination admission score line was lower than that of examinees from any other provinces. And the score line for art students was lower than that of ordinary examinees. Zhu Dan's parents were both down-to-earth farmers, but they had always attached great importance to the education of their daughter and son.
