■ 讲座主题:RaRe (Radical Realism) - speculative design thinking for critical practice
■ 主讲人:Dr. Robert Schmidt III
■ 简介:
BArch, MEng, PhD is a Reader in Architectural Design at Loughborough University where he led the development of architecture (BArch & MArch) and currently leads the RaRe design lab and the Adaptable Futures Research Group. He has published several papers and books on the topic of adaptability; investigating the design and management of change in our built environment. He holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Iowa State University; a MEng degree from The University of Tokyo; and a PhD from Loughborough University. He has worked for prestigious and award-winning architectural firms including Herb Beckhard and Frank Richlan (HB+FR) and OPN Architects.
RaRe Design Lab operates under a mantra of relational thinking with a heightened awareness of the complexity and connectivity of a shrinking world. The lab critically explores design challenges through a transdisciplinary lens thinking through systems, embracing an epistemological shift that focuses on designing not only the artefact but also the processes, operations and wider systems that trigger material and immaterial transformations that accumulate locally and traverse the planetary landscape.
The presentation will introduce the design approach of the lab and a handful of recent projects.
