王素教授於1977年考取武漢大學歷史系本科，1978年考取同系魏晉南北朝隋唐史專業研究生，1981年畢業，獲碩士學位。先後在國家文物局古文獻研究室和中國文物研究所工作。現為故宫博物院研究館員、故宫博物院古文獻研究所名譽所長、中國社會科學院大學教授和博士生導師、「古文字與中華文明傳承發展工程」專家委員會委員。1992年評為國家級有突出貢獻專家，1993年享受政府特殊津貼，2005年評為中組部代中央聯繫專家。
王素教授在中大訪學期間將主講兩場公開講座：

Professor Wang Su entered the School of History at Wuhan University in 1977 and received his master’s degree in 1981. After graduation, he worked successively in the Ancient Documents Research Office and the China Institute of Cultural Relics of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. He is now researcher at The Palace Museum, the Honorary Director of the Institute of Ancient Documents at The Palace Museum, professor and doctoral supervisor at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and committee member of Paleography and Chinese Civilization Inheritance and Development Program. Professor Wang has gained various recognitions from the state government due to his great contributions over the years, including being awarded the status of national-level expert in 1992, the Government Special Allowance in 1993, and being selected for the Expert Consultation List of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2005.
Professor Wang will deliver two public lectures during his visit:
