Good Day, Ladies and Gentlemen,
First of all, on behalf of the Faculty of Creative Arts, University of Malaya, I would like to extend my gratitude to Shaanxi Normal University and the Vielle Music & Arts for this ideal collaboration. Special thanks to the participants from China for being here with us in the past 2 years, and for participating in the ‘1st and 2nd University of Malaya International Music Competition’.
I would also like to express my appreciation to the Vice Chancellor, University of Malaya, for all the support in making this competition a success.
The Malaysia-China business and diplomatic relations have developed for a long time. The Chinese traders who came from the South China Coast started trading as early as the 12th century during the Song Dynasty. They later settled in colonial regimes such as Malacca and Penang in the Malay peninsula. The localization of culture in the Strait-born Chinese has bred a community known as Baba and Nyonya. This community has a unique culture that keeps the Chinese traditional elements in their social and religious practice.
You’ve probably heard of the Silk Road, the ancient trade route that once ran between China and the West during the Roman Empire. It’s how oriental silk first made it to Europe. The original Silk Road came into being during the westward expansion of China’s Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD), which forged trade networks throughout what are today the Central Asian countries of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan, as well as modern-day Pakistan and India to the south. Those routes eventually extended over four thousand miles to Europe. The new Silk Toad was resurrected in 2013 by President Xi Jinping, and a brand new double trade corridor is set to reopen channels between China and its neighbors in the West: the notable Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
Southeast Asia will be the first region to benefit directly from China’s ambitious Belt and Road initiative, and the success of the project will lie in fostering trust and cooperation among countries. This year 2025 has witnessed both countries celebrating the 51st Friendship Year since Malaysia’s second Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak, broke the ice of the Cold War and set foot in Beijing for a mission that he described as “a journey of goodwill and friendship to sow the seeds of mutual understanding between Malaysia and China is at its best today like ‘rhythm and song’ that cannot be separated.
As a reputable higher learning institution ranked the 60th in the world, University of Malaya will constantly support the development of the world music industry and strive to improve the quality of the music field. We are looking forward to this kind of collaboration ahead. The success of this event which took place today, is a testament to the continuous friendship between Malaysia and China, in the past, today, and the future!

1.马来亚大学第三届国际音乐邀请赛将于2025年7月14日至7月18日在全国各赛区举行。
2.初赛获奖者名单将于比赛当天公布。
3.每位参赛者只能在每个乐器类别或专业中仅报名一个类别。
4.参赛者必须在提交申请时确认曲目。
5.主办单位要求参与者以背谱方式表演。
6.主办单位将提供钢琴；双排键；中国传统乐器的参赛者需要在报名时提早通知是否需要竞赛委员会准备乐器。
7.所有参赛者将获得马来亚大学的获奖证书。
8.复赛获一等奖（均分90及以上）将获得马来亚大学入学资格（包括本/硕/博）
自选曲目一首（内容不限）
参赛者必须列出曲目的全部细节包括：
1.Name of composer 作曲家姓名
2.Full title of the piece 曲目名称
3.Approximate timing (maximum 8 minutes/piece) 所需表演时间（8分钟以内）
