雪鸮到底是一种什么样的生物？
雪鸮的栖息地主要在哪？
为什么说雪鸮是独立，高效的夜猎者？
本次活动中，我们将带领小朋友们观察标本，通过中英双语学习科学知识，并掌握英文词汇。
雪鸮是鸮形目鸱鸮科雪鸮属鸟类，又名白鸮、白猫头鹰，是极地著名的猎手。它雪白的身体上有两只黄色明亮的大眼睛，背部和头顶有些许棕色斑点。它的耳孔是一条很大的垂直裂缝，直通到头骨两侧，且不对称，有一双弯曲而锐利的爪。它的第四趾甚至还能向前后转动呢。
雪鸮在夏季主要栖息在北极的苔原、海岸和沼泽地带，在冬季则栖息于平原、旷野和森林中，喜欢独居。在夏季，它几乎完全在白天活动和觅食，因为北极的夏季24小时完全是白昼；但是到了冬天，北极又陷入漫漫长夜，雪鸮只能迁徙到南方来找寻食物。
雪鸮主要以北极地区常见的小型哺乳动物为食，例如旅鼠和雪兔。它们在捕猎时对距离的判断十分准确，这得益于灵敏的视觉，因为它们的眼睛比人眼包含更多的聚光细胞，可以观察到极远处的小物体。它们的听觉也非常灵敏，即使是在茂密的草丛中也能仅凭声音来捕猎。在食物极度匮乏时，雪鸮不繁殖，食物充裕时，它们一年繁殖一次。
小朋友们不但可以认真学习雪鸮相关知识，还可以获得一次拥英文讲解的机会，做一次小小讲解员。让我们挺直腰背、挺胸收腹、面带微笑、手势恰当、字正腔圆地完成一次讲解，体验为博物馆公众服务的乐趣。

Dear friend, what we see now is a famous hunter living in the Arctic, Bubo Scandiacus. There is a pair of big and bright yellow eyes on the white body and there are brown dots on its back and head. Bubo Scandiacus mainly resides in Arctic tundra, seashores, and swamp areas in summer and in moors and forests in winter. It mainly feeds on small Arctic mammals such as lemmings and rabbits. It can precisely judge the distance when hunting, benefiting from the acute eyesight. Its acoustic ability is also good, so they can hunt according to the sound even if it is in bushes or under the snow.
Dear friends, what we see now is an eminent forager inhabiting the polar areas, the Bubo Scandiacus. The thoroughly niveous body is ornamented by a pair of bright and big yellow eyes and brown dots evenly distributing on its back and head. Bubo Scandiacus mainly dwell in Arctic tundra, seashores, and marshes in summer whilst in moors and forests in winter, and it customarily feeds on small Arctic mammals such as lemmings and rabbits. Its eyes, containing more cells that concentrate the light than human beings, impose itself a strong optical competence and it can accordingly accurately calculate the distance to the prey’s location.
