Our research group focus on data-driven traffic behavior and safety analysis, digital twin integrated simulation, human-machine interaction, and spatiotemporal big data analytics. These projects revolve around intelligent transportation systems (ITS), connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV), spatial information for transportation , and travel behavior, among other related fields.

Dr. Tony Sze is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has long been engaged in research areas such as traffic safety, driver behavior, digital twin & co-simulation, and data analysis. Dr. Sze currently serves as the Associate Editor for the top-tier journal Accident Analysis and Prevention in the field of traffic safety, as well as the Associate Editor for Travel Behavior and Society and Transportmetrica A: Transport Science. Additionally, he is an editorial board member for prestigious international journals including Analytic Methods in Accident Research, Safety Science, Journal of Safety Research, Journal of Transport Geography and International Journal of Sustainable Transportation.

Dr. Tony Sze has published over 120 papers in renowned transportation journals such as Transportation Research Part C, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, Accident Analysis and Prevention, and Analytic Methods in Accident Research. He recognized as world's top 2% scientists in the discipline of Logistics and Transportation in 2023 compiled by Stanford University. In terms of student training, he adopts a differentiated Instruction approach to ensure ample face-to-face interaction each week, provides well-equipped and comprehensive laboratory facilities, respects students' research interests, and offers substantial resource support.  Academic Background: 

    Degrees in Civil/Transportation Engineering, Spatial Modeling, Mathematics and Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields.

 Preferred Qualifications:

    Knowledge and experience in statistical modeling and driving simulation.

    Proficiency in deep learning and reinforcement learning algorithms, with relevant research experience.

    Knowledge and experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications.
