3. Yuyuan Garden Lantern Festival


The annual Yuyuan Garden Lantern Festival will illuminate Shanghai on New Year's Day, celebrating the upcoming Year of the Snake and its 30th anniversary. The lantern displays will depict a vibrant and harmonious tapestry of life, showcasing animals, forests, mountains, and mythical elves from Shanhaijing, or The Classic of Mountains and Seas, a major source of Chinese mythology that dates back more than 2,000 years.

4. New Year Flower Market

Musicals


1. 2025 New Year's Concert of One Voice Children's Choir


This choir comes from the state of Utah in the United States. It consists of 180 children from all over the world, ranging in age from 5 to 18. They will perform a variety of popular songs at the Shanghai concert.

2. Notre Dame de Paris


On Jan 18, 2025, this piece of classical musical will welcome its 100th performance at the Shanghai Culture Square. In addition to performances, workshops, in-person meetings with actors, guided tours to the stage, and thematic lectures will also be available as part of the celebratory activities.

3. Spirited Away New Year Concert

4. WetMan: Show in the Rain


The show has been touring the world for 15 years and is widely considered to be one of the best Russian performances. It was choreographed by Russia's famous choreographer Rustam Nadyrshin, who skillfully combined real rain scenes with various dance techniques.

5. The Deer and the Cauldron


The drama is based on Louis Cha's novel The Deer and the Cauldron, which is set during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The story follows the adventures of Wei Xiaobao, a young man who rises from humble beginnings to become a trusted confidant of Emperor Kangxi.

6. 2025 Shanghai Spring Festival Concert


2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Strauss II. This concert focuses on the classic works of Johann Strauss II and his family, featuring a wide range of musical forms such as waltzes, polkas, and marches. These pieces not only have beautiful melodies and lively rhythms, but also convey a love for life and a hopeful outlook for the future.
