东土木屋沙龙是土木工程学院打造的三大品牌系列讲座活动之一。命名经过院内广泛征集意见而来,与土木工程学院老师交流微信群“东土木屋”同名,取意东大土木人的家园。东土木屋沙龙秉承同样的自由交流、畅所欲言的精神,旨在通过建立宽松互动的交流平台,促进思维碰撞,鼓励学术交叉,增进情感交流和学院凝聚力,营造东南土木的科学文化氛围。

Sustainability Based Innovations in Construction Materials and Structures


报告人简介

Dr. Khan Shahzada, a Professor of Civil Engineering at UET Peshawar, is a prominent figure in sustainable construction materials, structural engineering and disaster preparedness. He plays a key role in advancing disaster resilience, particularly through his involvement in the National Preparedness Partnership, advising Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's five million affordable housing initiative. One of his notable innovations is the commercialization of Confined Dry-Stacked Block Masonry, a blast-resistant construction technique developed in partnership with Eco Enterprises Islamabad. As an educator, beyond his academic achievements, he is deeply involved in community service as a founding member and advisor of the "Let’s Help Welfare Society" (LHWS). Through LHWS, Dr. Shahzada supports local communities with initiatives such as blood donation camps, psychological counselling, and financial aid, embodying a holistic approach to disaster risk management that integrates academic expertise, practical innovation, and community engagement.


报告简介


Shelter must be sustainable, durable, and safe. In seismically active Pakistan, various masonry systems—brick, dry-stack, and hollow concrete—have been evaluated for seismic performance. These seismic evaluations span across different structural typologies, including unreinforced, confined, and retrofitted structures, with many of the findings validated through numerical analysis. Masonry systems have also been tested for blast resistance, leading to improved strengthening techniques like ferrocement overlays, engineered cementitious composites, and external steel elements. Research on reducing cement use with additives like wheat straw, bagasse ash, and marble powder has led to the commercialization of several materials based on experimental findings.
