Comments of the Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands on DutchParliament passing a Taiwan-related motion
On September 12, the House of Representatives of the Netherlands adopted a Taiwan-related motion, deliberately distorted UNGA Resolution 2758. The spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands has the following comments:
Since ancient times, Taiwan has been an inalienable part of China’s territory. On October 25, 1971, the 26th session of the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758 with an overwhelming majority, which resolved, politically, legally and procedurally, the issue of the representation of the whole of China, including Taiwan, in the UN and international institutions. It has also made it clear that there can only be one seat representing China in the UN. The one-China principle has become a prevailing consensus of the international community and a widely-held basic norm of international relations, thus fully eliminating any room for anyone, any country or any force to create “two Chinas” or “one China, one Taiwan”. The Taiwan region has no basis, ground or right whatsoever to participate in the UN or any other international organizations that can only be joined by sovereign countries.
China urges the Netherlands to abide by the one-China principle, avoid sending wrong signals to “Taiwan independence” forces, and maintain the development of Sino-Dutch relations through practical actions.
