Andrei lay on the ground as he awoke, beside him towering birch trees that seemed to touch the sky. The leaves above his head were a mosaic of light and shadow, flickering and shimmering as though alive. Sunlight filtered through them, casting spots of light upon his eyes. He squinted, peering through the gaps and seeing the blue sky beyond.
