The Trail of Love 4

The spirit of giving blossoms in the hearts of Canadians. In 2013, I was staying with a Canadian homestay family in Nanaimo, a quaint town located on Vancouver Island, Canada. The magic of Christmas was unfolded by my homestay mom, Lesley, who gifted me a string of 24 numbered goodie bags. This made my first night in December painted with anticipation and excitement.
Initially I was quite perplexed by this gift as it was presented in a way that I had not seen before. And Lesley just smiled at me and explained the charm of what it was - the Advent Calendar: each day holds a surprise in a tiny bag of joy waiting to be opened, serving as a daily ritual to countdown the days until Christmas with such anticipation.
The true magic of this string of goodie bags though, wasn’t just in the gifts, but rather in the moments that unfolded throughout December. The string was the trail of finding Santa, and each numbered goodie bag was a footstep towards this beautiful holiday. As a family together, I partook in many festive activities - skiing and snow tubing, baking reindeer-shaped cookies, decorating a tree with twinkling lights, and putting wrapped gifts beneath.
For someone who was unaccustomed to Christmas, every gesture and every laughter have become a treasure of love. The trail of love wasn’t just about the gifts; it was about the love woven into our ordinary daily life. The spirit of Christmas that I spent with the Wright’s family, transformed the season into an unforgettable journey of discovery and love - and in the midst of snowflakes, I found a sense of belonging. Gratitude guides me along this trail of Christmas, and every step is adorned with the joy of giving and love.
Santa’s trail of love never stops, and neither do we.

Reflecting on Shiota’s questions, the answers began to become clearer. Why do we start the journey to the uncharted horizons? What are we exactly looking for? We are drawn to the diverse cultures and dedicated to make and celebrate these meaningful human and cultural connections. The trails we tread are full of love.
In this Christmas season, we again cheer for the spirit of giving. Our global travels are trails of love. And we invite you to share your love and to be bathed in love.
To encapsulate the essence of this festive season, we’ve collaborated with our beloved young artist, Nicole, to create a Christmas vision that tells a hearty story: Watermelong embarks on a journey to find Santa. Along the way, he looks for guidance from different people for directions, giving them gifts that he brought along, leaving none behind until he reaches Santa. Just when he gets upset and feels hopeless, magic unfolds.
Watermelong’s journey is a trail of love. And we welcome you to join his journey at LOCK CHUCK. In a city that never snows, we keep the festive spirit with love. The real Christmas trees and handmade wreaths are spreading the festive spice in the air. Christmas menus are launched, who can resist the charm of a homemade blueberry cake? To even sweeten the deal, we have prepared a batch of our homemade red wine mixed berry jam for you to take home.
Now, take up the trail of love.
