摘要:: Rigidity theory for diffeomorphisms of compact manifolds is an area of prime importance in dynamical systems. However, besides the results on circle diffeomorphisms, the rigidity in the other situation is far fromwell-known. In a joint work with L.. Stolovitch (Universi-ty Cote d' Azur), we show the local rigidity of the action by analytic isometries of compact rear-analytic Ricmannian manifolds under certain Diophantine condition. The proof is based on a Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser scheme.

报告摘要:Benefiting from recent quantum leap in computational mechanics, nanotechnology, material science, electronic packaging and optics, the past decade has witnessed remarkable advances in ultrasonics-driven material characterization. Having said that, some technical bottlenecks still exist in today’s ultrasonics-driven material characterization, particularly including the inefficiency in quantitative characterization of micro-scale damage (e.g., fatigue cracks), dilemma in striking a compromise between “sensing cost” and “sensing effectiveness”, and contact-type implementation. All these have created a vast barrier towards the real-world deployment of the techniques that are developed in laboratories. Envisaging this, some new solutions will be reported in this talk, aimed at breaking through these bottlenecks, partially if not completely. These new solutions have been demonstrated in selected engineering application paradigms, in which conventional ultrasonics-driven material characterization fail to deliver satisfactory results.

摘   要:Llarull's Theorem states that on an n-sphere, a Riemannian metric dominating the standard one must have scalar curvature less than n(n-1) at some point. Utilizing Llarull's proof, we have obtained a stability result in the intrinsic flat sense, assuming a uniformly bounded Poincaré constant. Additionally, I will share the proof of the Incomplete Llarull's Theorem for dimension three, using level set techniques. These works are joint efforts with Sven Hirsch, Demetre Kazaras, and Marcus Khuri.  

报告人简介:Yiyue Zhang is a visiting assistant professor at UCI, working with Prof. Richard Schoen. His primary research interests include scalar curvature and interconnected topics such as level set methods, minimal surfaces, and spin geometry, along with their applications in general relativity. He earned his PhD degree from Duke University under the supervision of Prof. Hubert Bray in 2021.

摘   要:It has been established that ambiguity aversion increases the optimal demand of (self-)insurance due to the resulting mean-preserving contraction in the distribution of expected utility. We extend the existing framework by further permitting the insurance indemnities to vary ex-ante based on the state of information concerning the loss probability that is realized expost. We show that ambiguity-averse agents will always strictly prefer state-of-information dependent insurances over ones with fixed indemnities. Our results also hold when the underlying state of information cannot be directly observed, but can be (partially) inferred from some observable indicators - based on which indemnities are further contingent.

报告人简介:Dr. Guan earned her PhD in Financial Mathematics from Florida State University in 2011. She earned her BS in Financial Mathematics from Peking University in 2006. Dr. Guan joined DePaul University in 2020.  She holds a joint appointment with the Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Science and Health and the Department of Finance in the Driehaus College of Business. As a member of those two departments, she serves as the Director of the Actuarial Science programs in each college. Dr. Guan is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA). Her research interests are in financial mathematics and actuarial science, focusing on heterogeneous agent models, risk management, and insurance economics.


3.Ground State Properties of the Dilute Bose Gas

摘   要:The interacting Bose gas is a system in quantum statistical mechanics where complex collective behavior emerges from the underlying many-body theory, posing crucial challenges to its rigorous mathematical description.

While for certain models of the Bose gas, known as scaling limits, precise results on the ground state energy and the low-lying spectrum of excitations have been obtained, much less is known in the thermodynamic limit. In this talk I will discuss the Bose gas in a box with Neumann boundary conditions and show how it allows us to obtain lower bounds for the ground state energy in the thermodynamic limit. I will also discuss extensions to positive temperature. (Joint works with Robert Seiringer, Andreas Deuchert and David Stocker.)
