In 405 A.D., Tao Yuanming took office as a county leader in Pengze County. Liu Yun, an assistant of the head of Xunyang Prefecture, was a greedy man. He always asked for lots of money and goods when he made an inspection tour around nearby countries.
One day, Liu Yun came to Pengze County and commanded to bring Tao Yuanming to him. Hearing the news, Tao Yuanming decided to go immediately. But his assistant stopped him and said: “Sheriff, you should wear your robe, or you will be disrespectful. Then your career will be blocked.” Tao Yuanming felt helpless and sighed: “I will never give in because of these insignificant things.” So he resigned and left Pengze County.
