Title: Post-doctoral assistant department Solid State Sciences

At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research consistent with the department’s research on vacuum-based thin film deposition methods and characterization methods for thin films and surfaces, in particular related to the battery research of the research group COCOON (Conformal Coating of Nanomaterials)
You will assist in teaching activities at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level, in particular you will organize and supervise exercise sessions, seminars and practical sessions in the physics and astronomy courses and in the physics service education provided by the department
You will counsel Master’s students in their exercises and Master’s dissertation
You will counsel doctoral students
You will assist in the internal and external services of the department
You hold a doctoral degree (Doctor of Science: Physics or Doctor of Science: Chemistry, or a subject relevant by the selection committee)
You obtained your Master’s degree preferably in a physics oriented program (Master of Physics and Astronomy or Master of Engineering Physics, or a program considered relevant by the selection committee, or equivalent)
The degree requirements need to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted
You have already conducted research within the field of vacuum based thin film deposition methods and characterization methods for thin films and surfaces. Research experience with sputter deposition and/or atomic layer deposition is considered as an asset. Experience with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is as well recommended
You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher during your doctorate
You are profoundly interested in coaching students in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or Advanced Master’s programmes
You may present relevant scientific publications in (inter)national peer-reviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated
Oral presentations at foreign institutes and/or on international conferences are considered as an asset
You demonstrate didactic qualities and good communication and organizational skills to assist in academic education at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level. Experience with supervising (groups of) students is considered as an asset
A sufficient knowledge of Dutch to assist in teaching activities at the Bachelor’s level (exercise sessions, seminars and practical sessions) is considered as an asset
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
We offer you a temporary appointment of 3 years. A second appointment of up to 3 years can follow, subject to a favourable evaluation of the first term
Even if you have already been appointed earlier (whether or not at another university and whether or not in the same field of discipline) in a first term of up to three years, you can apply
The second appointment does not have to be immediately connected to a first term
Your appointment will start on 1 March 2025 at the earliest

The certificate can be requested via www.naricvlaanderen.be/en. For diplomas awarded in the UK before January 31st of 2020, a certificate of equivalence is not required
