Data from Stats NZ confirms Zespri’s strong demand Japan, China and Australia as 2024 campaign concluded

New Zealand’s fruit exports were 314 per cent higher in October 2024 than in the same month of 2023, according to new data published by Stats NZ.

Overall fruit export earnings for the period amounted to NZ$188mn (€104.9mn), of which kiwifruit accounted for NZ$146mn (€81.4mn), up 1,078 per cent year on year.

The country’s fruit exports to Australia, China, and Japan were up significantly in October, according to Stats NZ – by NZ$17mn, NZ$20mn, and NZ$45mn respectively.

As reported earlier this month, the country’s single-desk kiwifruit exporter Zespri has forecast much-improved returns to growers as the 2024 season comes to an end.

The total value of kiwifruit exports during that campaign has risen by a reported NZ$1.0bn (€557.8mn), or 43 per cent, on the 2023 result to NZ$3.4bn (€1.9bn). SunGold accounted for the bulk of those earnings, at NZ$2.56bn (€1.43bn).
